  1. Photoelectric Effect

  2. The effect is based on the idea that electromagnetic radiation is made of a series of particles called photons. When a photon hits an electron on a metal surface, the electron can be emitted.

  3. The emitted electrons are called photoelectrons. The effect is also called the Hertz Effect, because it was discovered by Heinrich Rudolf Hertz but this name is not used often.

  4. Albert Einstein proposed the Laws of Photoelectric Effect and Won the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921.

  5. Not every electromagnetic wave will cause the photoelectric effect, only radiation of a certain frequency or higher will cause the effect. The minimum frequency needed is called Frequency (v)he cut-off frequency or threshold frequency

  6. Energy of electrons vs frequency of light (for photoelectric cell) E=hf = KE + w. x-intercept is threshold frequency Where, h is Planck's constant, 0f is the frequency of the electromagnetic wave KE is the kinetic energy of the photoelectron w is the work function for the metal -1 gradient the Planck conjtant -2 y-intercept is work function

  7. Compton scattering Recoil electron Target electron at rest If the photon has a lot of energy, Compton scattering or pair Incident photon te Scatteredproduction may take photonplace. -_-(1-cos moc
