1939 - 1945 WW-II First Atomic Bomb (Little Boy) 6th August 1945 on Hiroshima. (Fat Man) 9th August 1945 on Nagasaki. Japan + Germany + Italy vs US + UK + USSR American Scientists concerned about German's nuclear program and were funded secretly through "Manhattan Project". July 16, 1945, Robert Openhalm led the project team to the first successful test at Almogordo, New Mexico. Harry Trueman (President of US that time) didn't want the high number of casualities and hence was okay to drop the bomb. Hiroshima (important Japanese manufacturing center) was chosen to be the first target. 9000 pound U235 was loaded in US's "Enola Gay" at 08:15 AM == 15000 tonnes of TNT. 10000 pound U235 == 22000 tonnes of TNT on Nagasaki on 9th August. 15th August 1945 (JST) Hirohitho -- Japanese emperor announced in Radio broadcast his country surrender. Formal agreement was signed on 2nd Sep 1945 on US battleship Missouri. Bombing anniversary is observed at Hiroshima peace park on every 6th August each year.
I am an Indian living in Hiroshima. Living here I have come to realize that wars happen because of the random decision of the leadership and the innocent suffer. What happened here for not just tragic but heart wrenching
