  3. Why so many definitions of the same concept? For each of us, the meaning of EQUALITY might be different For some of us, reservation might promote equality However, for some others, it might be just the opposite of equality

  4. We constantly try to negotiate between various people's concepts of equality In a way, this is putting political theory in practice!

  5. EQUAL?

  6. So what do political theorists do? Political theorists just do what we do in a much more organized manner We will understand this with the help of the concept of equality hey have a fixed way of understanding and formulating political theory

  7. 1. Observing political theory in everyday life First, they will OBSERVE what They will see how the conce are the different conceptions of equality for different people of equality is perceived in everyday life, ie., in schools, families, places of worship, etc They will analyse what kind of equality is ACCEPTED b people and what is not

  8. 2. Formulating various questions After observing the phenomenon of EQUALITY around them, they will be struck by certain questions The questions then help them to continue their work to know more about EQUALITY

  9. Some questions that the theorist might come up with while working on EQUALITY When is equality of opportunity enough? When do people need special treatment? How far and long should this special treatment be given? Should poor children be given midday meals to encourage them to stay in school? Does reservation support/oppose the idea of equality?

  10. 3. Finding answers and forming definitions After the questions have been formed, the theorist will again set on an observation drive S/he will observe specifically to answer these questions After s/he is satisfied with the answers, s/he will create a DEFINITION of equality

  11. Thank You!
