The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), headed by Prime Minister, gave its approval for the implementation of the umbrella scheme, Modernisation of Police Forces (MPF), for 2017-18 to 2019-20 The financial outlay over the three-year period is 325,060 crore, out of which the Central government's share will be 8,636 crore and the States' 6,424 crore. Special provisions had been made under the scheme for: [i] internal security, ilaw and order [iii]women's security, [ivjavailability of modern weapons, [v]mobility of police forces, vi]logistical support, vilhiring of helicopters and [viije-prison among others

  10. What is e-prison? The information about jail inmates is currently being maintained manually. To avoid delays in processing the information and manage all the jails efficiently, the automation of prison departments in various states has been started. The government has already digitised records of 500 inmates. The project will digitise 25 district jails, two Central jails and one sub-jail in the State. The second phase of the project will focus on: videoconferencing between jails and prison headquarters, -e-court, -tele-medication in jails.

New Rules for Gold Transactions: In August, India moved to include gold sales under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The law makes it mandatory for jewellers to keep records of customers' personal identification numbers or tax code number for transactions above 50,000. Besides, the sales tax on gold rose to 3% from 1.2 % as part of a new nationwide sales tax regime that started on July I. Rise in demand: Indian gold demand typically rises in the last three months of the year as consumers buy more for the wedding season as well as for festivals such as Diwali and Dussehra. . What India Bullion and Jewellers Association has to comment on New Rules: The unintended consequences of decision to raise import taxes on gold to 10% is tax avoidance. i] The government implemented the PMLA rule but it didn't take efforts to popularise. [ii]Customers are not aware of the rule and are hesitating in giving necessary details [iijUnaccounted sale will rise in the festive season as customers are trying to buy without bills.
