BRO was established in 1960 and comes under Ministry of Defence. It was created to undertake constructional activities in Border areas of India to create a ink between remote parts of India. For ex : -Presently, BRO is also involved in the construction of a tunnel at the Rohtang pass which is estimated to be ready by 2019. The development work in not only related to India but also in other friendly nations. For ex : - Delaram-Zaranj Highway in Afghanistan, completed and handed over to the Afghan government during 2008. They also play a big role in event of natural calamities like tsunami in TN(2004) , ladhak floods(2010). The recruits in BRO are from various forces like Indian Army's Corps of Engineers, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Army Service Corps, Military Police and army personnel so that each group has brought its own expertise to make BRO as a very useful org. So far,it has accomplished every task through shear hard work which is in line with its motto "Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam ".But still it has to speed up the process to match the rate at which China is undertaking its construction projects in border areas.
Hey yash .....Can you help me with something??
Border Road organisation was created in 1960 under Ministry of Defense with an objective to create world class infrastructural development of our border areas by combining highly skilled workforce with cutting edge technology. Its vision is to lend a helping hand in the upliftment of border infrastructure & ultimately protect nations security and integrity. Uptil now BRO has successfully completed the projects it has undertaken. HIMANK Project in North Eastern Ladakh and Delaram-Zaranj highway in Afghanistan are some of the results of its sheer hardwork which is aptly reflected in its motto : “ Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam” ("Everything is Achievable through Hard Work"). . The BRO has also proved its merit by handling and stabilizing the after effects of natural calamities like 2004 Tamil Nadu Tsunami and 2010 Ladakh Flash floods . By forming better government policies augmented with latest technology some of the shortcomings can be overcome and BRO will keep on setting high standards in the domain of Border road management and nation’s security

MAINS Paper-3:Security challenges and their border areas; Various Security forces and agencies and their mandate. Parliamentary Standing Committee had, in 2016, criticised the government for not utilising funds in the Defence budget, and under-allocating the budget for the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) by more than 1,000 crore of the amount requested. . Concluding that in order to compete with our neighbouring countries, especially China, we must have latest, state-of- the-art equipment with the Border Roads Organisation, the report had said there is an acute shortage of manpower, both combatant and civilians put together, in the BRO. Question: BRO comes under Ministry of Home or Ministry of Defence or Ministry of External Affairs? Mains: For what purposes BRO was created. How far has it succeeded in achieving its mandate? Many foreign policy analysts also see Mr. Modi's visit as the ending of India's non-aligned movement (NAM), stance that the NDA government has made a decided shift from, underlined by his decision not to attend the NAM summit in Venezuela last year. 4. Page 14 Science & Technology: IISER Kolkata develops fire retardant, rust-resistant material The organic-inorganic hybrid material was synthesised by combining polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) and diphenylalanine. The POSS molecule by itself has unique properties such as high thermal stability and fire retarding ability. While both POSS and diphenylalanine are naturally water repelling, the hydrophobic nature gets enhanced when they are combined. Corrosion Resistance: The nails coated with the hybrid solution were able to resist corrosion even when treated with an aqueous solution of sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium bromide and even hydrochloric acid. *Fire-retardant property . Finally, the fire-retardant property of matchsticks coated with the hybrid material was tested. While matchstick with no coating burnt completely, those coated with only POSS to more time to reach the end of the matchstick. But matchsticks coated with the hybrid material were able to extinguish the flame as soon as fire reached the coated portion. The peptide not only retards the flame but also extinguishes the fire.
