+Jhum (Shifting) cultivation is a primitive practice of cultivation in States of North Eastern Hill Region of India and people involved in such cultivation are called Jhumia. The practice involves clearing vegetative/forest cover on land/slopes of hills, drying and burning it before onset of monsoon and cropping on it thereafter. After harvest, this land is left fallow and vegetative regeneration is allowed on it till the plot becomes reusable for same purpose in a cycle +Watershed Development Project in Shifting Cultivation Areas (WDPSCA) was taken up in seven States of North Eastern Region with 100% SCA as per directions of National Development Council (NDC) in 1994-95. Recently, under National Afforestation Programme, problem of jhum cultivation was given special focus. In context of jurisdiction of SC in inter-state water dispute, it is mentioned clearly in M Laxmikant book that the SC would indeed have jurisdiction to decide any dispute between states in connection with the water supplies, if legal rights or interests are concerned.

Hi, thanks for providing name of supplementary books. Can you please suggest how to do analysis from these books as it would become difficult to go through whole book? I am new to upsc preparation. Without any guidance. Please suggest? Thanks.

It is India's case that these privileges were denied to it. . Pakistan alleges that the Convention's privileges were not only inapplicable, but that the ICJ, in any event, lacks the jurisdiction to decide the dispute . Compulsory Jurisdiction: Ordinarily, rows between nations can be taken to the World Court only if both parties consent to the court's jurisdiction. In this case, however,India relies on Article 36() of the Statute of the ICJ which accords to the court the power to decide disputes arising out of treaties or conventions that specifically vest the court with compulsory jurisdiction.
