The All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) is the former name for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). This is a national level competitive examination held every year in two phases – JEE Main and JEE Advanced. Aspirants who want to get admission into engineering, planning and architecture programs in reputable institutes in the country appear for the JEE.

Structure of JEE Main

JEE Main consists of 90 multiple-choice questions and the time given to solve the papers is 3 hours. The paper is sectioned into 3 parts: Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Each section has 30 questions. Four points are awarded for every right answer and 1 point reduced for each wrong answer. So it’s better to leave a question unanswered if you are not confident about the answer being correct or not, and of course, avoid guessing.

Structure of JEE Advanced

The JEE Advanced is quite different from the Main. Although the questions asked in the paper are based on the same 3 topics: Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. The exam contains 2 individual papers, of 3 hours each, and each of the papers is sectioned into three parts.

The AIEEE 2012 was conducted in both offline and online mode. The offline examination took place on 29th April, 2012 and online examination took place from 7th May to 26th May, 2012.
