As per the official announcement by the Department of Higher Education, candidates need to match the following criteria to be eligible to appear in the JEE Main 2022:
Age criteria
- There is no age bar for appearing in the JEE Main 2022 examination
- Candidates who completed the class 12/ corresponding examinations in 2020, 2021, or are appearing in 2022, regardless of age, are eligible to sit for the JEE (Main) – 2022 examination
- In case, if the institute they are taking admission in has specific age criteria, they need to follow that
Qualifying examinations list
- Vocational Examination for the Higher Secondary Certificate
- The end examination of the 10+2 curriculum, which is administered by any recognized Central/ State Board, such as the CBSE in New Delhi, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations in New Delhi, and so on
- A two-year intermediate or pre-university test administered by a recognized Board/ University
- Any public school/board/university examination in India or any other country, recognized as equivalent to 10+2 by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)
- A three-year diploma approved by AICTE or a state board of technical education
- The National Institute of Open Schooling conducts the final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy Senior Secondary School Examination, with a minimum of five topics
- Advanced (A) level General Certificate of Education (GCE) test (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka)
- Cambridge University’s High School Certificate Examination or the International Baccalaureate Diploma from the International Baccalaureate Office in Geneva
- If the Class 12 Exam is not a public test, the candidate must have previously passed at least one public (Board or Pre-University) examination
- Candidates who have finished the Class 12 (or comparable) examination outside of India or from a Board other than those listed above must present a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) stating that the test they passed is equal to the Class 12 Examination
Years of appearing in the qualifying examination
- Those applicants who completed the Class 12/ corresponding test in 2020, and 2021, or who are scheduled to take the Class 12/ corresponding exam in 2022 are qualified to take the JEE (Main) – 2022
- Applicants who completed the Class 12/corresponding exam in 2019 or earlier, as well as those who will take it in 2023 or after, are ineligible to take the JEE (Main) – 2022
