JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria

JEE Advanced or Joint Entrance Examination Advanced is conducted by one of the 7 Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) in the country. The candidates appear for the JEE Advanced exam to get admission in either Engineering, Science or Planning programmes offered by one of the IITs in the country. Candidates should meet the following eligibility criteria to appear in JEE Advanced examination.

JEE Main performance

  • Candidates must be one of the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (all categories) in the JEE (Main) 2022 B.E./B.Tech. paper
  • The percentages of candidates shortlisted for each category are as follows:
  1. 10% for GEN-EWS
  2. 27% for OBC-NCL
  3. 15% for SC,
  4. 7.5 % for ST,
  5. Remaining 40.5 % is OPEN for everyone
  6. PwD applicants are eligible for 5% horizontal reserve in each of these five categories

The table below indicates the order in which the top 2,50,000 applicants in various categories will be selected based on their performance in the JEE Main 2022 B.E./B.Tech. exam.

Age criteria

  • Candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 1997
  • SC, ST, and PwD applicants receive a five-year age relaxation, which means they must be born on or after October 1, 1992

Number of attempts

A candidate may take JEE (Advanced) no more than twice in two consecutive years.

Class XII examination (appearing status)

A candidate must have appeared in the Class XII (or equivalent) test in either 2021 or 2022, with compulsory subjects – Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Candidates who took the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the very first time in 2020 or before are not eligible to take the JEE Advanced 2022 unless they qualify for the one-time exceptional measure outlined below.

Note: By appearing in the Class XII (or equivalent) examination, it is intended that the board in question published the result for that year, regardless of whether or not the examination was held. Even if the outcome of a certain candidate is concealed, it will be counted as an entrance.

Relaxation allowed:

  • Students who have appeared in the 12th standard (or similar) test for the very first time in 2020 and 2021 as well as successfully enrolled for JEE Advanced) 2021 and were also unavailable both In papers, i.e. Paper 1 and Paper 2, of JEE (Advanced) 2021, were also qualified to straightforwardly emerge for JEE (Advanced) 2022 and should not have to accomplish eligibility requirements

Applicants must, nevertheless, enroll for the JEE (Advanced) 2022 using the online registration site and deposit the entry fee. Furthermore, these individuals would be regarded in regard to, rather than as a subset of, the total number of students who would qualify from JEE (Main) 2022 to compete in JEE (Advanced) 2022.

Candidates must note that due to the ongoing pandemic, this is a one-time solution applicable just for JEE (Advanced) 2022.

  1. As a one-time exceptional step in response to the ongoing epidemic, applicants who took their class 12th (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2020 are also eligible to take JEE (Advanced) 2022 granted they meet all of the following two conditions concurrently:
  2. The applicant must have participated in JEE (Advanced) once, either within 2020 or 2021; alternatively, the candidate must not have participated in any paper in both JEE (Advanced) 2020 and JEE (Advanced) 2021
  3. These candidates must appear/have participated in JEE (Main) 2022 and should be in the list of the top 2,50,000 successful students (including all categories) in their particular category to qualify for JEE (Advanced) 2022
  4. Admission in IITs
  5. An applicant shouldn’t have been accepted to an IIT previously, regardless of whether the candidate persisted in the program or accepted an IIT seat by reporting “online” or even at a “reporting center.” Candidates whose admittance to IITs was revoked after enrolling in an IIT are likewise unable to take the JEE (Advanced) 2022
  6. Candidates who were admitted to a preparatory program at any of the IITs for the first time in 2021 are eligible to take the JEE (Advanced) in 2022
  7. Applicants who’d been assigned a seat in an IIT through JoSAA 2021 and though chose not to report “online” / at any “reporting center” and decided to withdraw already when the last round of seat allotment/ had their own seat decided to cancel before the last round of seat allotment for IITs are qualified to take JEE (Advanced) 2022
