What is the Full Form of JEE?

The full form of JEE is Joint Entrance Examination.

JEE is one of the most important engineering examinations in India. It is considered a national-level exam due to its importance in the education system of the country. JEE is a type of engineering entrance exam that provides an opportunity for students who want to pursue engineering. Students can get admission to their preferable institutions after clearing the JEE. This exam offers candidates an opportunity to get admission into famous IITs, NITs, and IIITs colleges across the country. “The Joint Seat Allocation Authority” or JoSAA is responsible for conducting the process of joint admission. The admission of students into different colleges depends on the rank secured by a student.

JEE Exam

The background of the JEE is an interesting one. The exam was first conducted and perceived in the year 1960. The name was different at that time and was known as Common Entrance Exam or CEE. After many years, it was renamed the Joint Entrance Exam or JEE. In 2010, a proposal was submitted for replacing the JEE. However, it was turned down by many participating IITs of the country. On the other hand, a meeting was held at IIT Delhi, in which the Joint Admission Board or JAB has adopted a new admission policy.

The board decided to conduct the admission test to the IITs in two steps from 2013. The two tests are called JEE Main and JEE Advanced. A weight-age ratio of 60-40 is given to the candidates. This exam will allow the candidates to take admission in IITs, NITs, and several government-aided engineering institutions of India. CSAB has prescribed that the courses will be based on All India Rank Subject. This is the new norm that has been taken into consideration since 2013. Many institutions in India do not conduct any post-counselling session after the exam. These institutions only consider the score obtained in the JEE as the basis for admission. When a student passes the JEE and takes admission in an IIT, can not appear for the same exam again. However, it is possible when the student gets a chance in other institutions apart from IITs.

National Testing Agency

The National Testing Agency or NTA was established in 2018 by a joint effort of The Ministry of Education and the Government of India. This was formed under the Societies Registration Act of 1860 to act as an autonomous, independent, and self-sustained testing organization. The main objective behind forming this organization was to conduct tests of the candidates maintaining a standard of international level, and that too with proper efficiency and transparency. These tests are responsible for assessing the competency level of the candidates appearing in the JEE. It is the main deciding factor for the students to take admissions in premier educational institutes of the country.

A network of test centers has been set up across India by the NTA. These test centers help the aspirants to prepare for the JEE with more efficiency. The mode of exam is the same as the main exam, Computer Based Test or CBT. Many staff including qualified and experienced professionals are available at the centers who help the students to clear their doubts regarding the tests. This process also works as a motivator for the students. Students get to solve many problems related to the topic that makes them familiar with the CBT model of exams. The Government of India, MHRD, and the Department of Higher Education took the responsibility of conducting the JEE with NTA from 2019.

JEE Eligibility Criteria

Every exam has some criteria for the candidates that are set based on age, state, and reservation system. However, in the case of the JEE, the eligibility criteria are not very complicated. The first criteria for the students to appear in any exam has been the age limit. No age limit has been set for the candidates appearing in the JEE 2021 particularly. Irrespective of their age, students who have passed their Higher Secondary or Diploma examinations in 2019 or 2020, or appearing in 2021, can appear in the JEE 2021 exam. However, students may need to be eligible for the criteria set by the institutions that they have a desire to take admission.

State code of eligibility is considered another important criterion for students appearing in the JEE. The general meaning of this criteria is from which state code the candidate has passed the Higher Secondary or Diploma examinations. In case an Indian candidate has passed any of these examinations from outside of India, the state code of eligibility will be based on the permanent address in India given in the passport of the candidate. Reservations are also considered in the JEE that play a significant role in determining the results.

JEE has been considered one of the toughest entrance examinations in India. The impact of the JEE on the life of engineering aspirants is immense. Students can take admissions in the institutions of their choice. Students can take help from the test centers maintained by NTA across the country to prepare for the exam in a better way. However, the pattern of the JEE has undergone many changes since its invention.
