Page-11: India, Bangladesh navies to join hands [GSM-2:Bilateral Relationsl at th India and Bangladesh have agreed to institute a Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) as an annual feature between the two Navies. The first edition will be inaugurated by Navy Chief Admiral Sunil Lanba during his visit there from June 24 to 29 The commencement of CORPAT is major step towards enhanced operational interaction between both Navies. Naval cooperation between India and Bangladesh has been traditionally strong, encompassing a wide span which includes operational interactions through port calls, passage exercises along with capacity building, capability enhancement and training initiatives," the Navy said in a statement. The Navy said the aim of Adm. Lanba's visit is to "consolidate bilateral defence relations between India and Bangladesh and to explore new avenues for naval cooperation During his visit, Adm. Lanba will call on Bangladesh President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and also interact with the three service Chiefs of Bangladesh armed forces. Widening cooperation: Over the last few years, the Navy has expanded its assistance to countries in the region through "material support, training, EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) surveillance, provisioning of platforms, hydrographic assistance, joint exercises and offering slots in professional training courses." e an ent ksa The Navy regularly conducts CORPATs with Indonesia, Myanmar and Thailand. It also conducts EEZ surveillance of Maldives, Mauritius and Seychelles on their request.

Chelameswar, the Supreme Court notified a new roster for the allocation of cases to judges, which will come into effect from July 2 when the top court reopens after summer vacation. y hav phc. Like the previous roster notified on February 1, the new roster says that the Bench he headed by CJI will hear all PIL petitions, besides pleas on social justice, reve layer elections, habeas corpus and contempt of court .Justice Ranjan Gogoi, the seniormost judge after the Chief Justice, will deal with labour laws, indirect taxes, personal law and company law cases. The roster was put in the public domain for the first time in February after Justices Chelameswar, Gogoi, M.B. BUSINESS PAGE-13: Govt. testing 'big data' system to aid banks assess credit risks th The government is testing a new system that will assist banks in assessing credit risk and the probability of fraud using big data analysis. The system is expected to help lenders, particularly rural and cooperative banks, tackle the issue of rising non performing assets (NPAs) A credit rating model has been developed "that can assist the rural and cooperative banks to quantify re he risks under the big data context. Currently, rural and cooperative banks depend on judgement of the bank manager, resulting in high NPA. The ministry sponsored project includes as partners the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Bangalore- based IT firm Processware System and two cooperative banks. Sources said the project is aimed at helping banks quantify risks associated with retail loans such as gold loans, personal loans and vehicle loans. Under the project, a statistical and machine learning algorithmic model has been developed to predict the probability of default with an aim to reduce NPAs. A model has also been developed for predicting different types of frauds in the banking sector based on RBI guidelines. Web-enabled software: A web-enabled software is also being tested, which when implemented will assist the banks to easily adopt the models for credit rating, non-performing assets and fraud. ay

The AllB has approved the concept note for lending $200 million to NIIF. Its board of he directors at its meeting will take up the proposal for the first tranche of $100 million and re the proposal for the second tranche would be taken up later. The fund of funds will be invested in other funds. Two such funds have already been conceptualised, including a green growth fund which will also have investments from DFID e an k h ent .India is already the largest borrower from the AlIB with $1.2 billion financing in six projects. .In total, the AllB has invested $4.39 billion in projects. . Appointment of Management: India, which is the second largest stake-holder in the China- backed Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, failed to secure a guarantee for the institution's vice presidency even as it asserted that Beijing has no veto rights despite having a say in its functioning. AIIB decided to hire meritorious candidates for such posts, instead of allotting it to countries based on shareholding. The AlIB is expected to open a new channel of funding for the Global South, which was so far dependent on the western backed International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), in which Japan plays a pre-eminent role Observers say that the new lender will focus on infrastructure development in Asia-a move that is likely to support the Eurasian connectivity initiative under the China-led Belt and Road initiative
