  2. IBM 1. RESTRUCTURING OF IBM The government approved the restructuring of Indian Bureau of Mines to reform the mineral sector regulation. 2. BENEFIT The restructuring would enable the adoption of IT and space technology by the bureau to improve its effectiveness in mineral regulation and development. -create direct employment opportunities for technical personnel with higher responsibility for contribution in faster development of mineral sector.


  3. OPIUM 1. PRIVATISATION OF POPPY The Centre has taken the first step towards privatisation of poppy cultivation and extraction of narcotic raw materials -awarded a licence to Rusan Pharma for the trial cultivation 2. USE Opium is the source of alkaloids such as morphine, codeine and the baine, used in anti-addiction therapies and medicines that treat extreme pain, such as in cancer patients 3. Opium production in India is highly controlled.


  4. GO TO VILLAGE 1. MISSION LAUNCHED Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh launched the "Go to Village" mission at Konuma ground, Laphupat Tera, Komlakhong gram panchayat in Imphal West district. 2. VILLAGES The mission was launched throughout Manipur in 60 villages of all the 60 Assembly constituencies. 3. WHAT WILL HAPPEN DURING THE MISSION? 4.   5. 100TH AIRPORT 1. IN SIKKIM The Pakyong airport in Sikkim is set to become the 100th operational airport in the country when it is commissioned in June. -Low-cost airline SpiceJet has been granted permission to fly to Pakyong in Sikkim from Kolkata under the civil aviation ministry's regional connectivity scheme. 2. REGIONAL CONNECTIVITY SCHEME -Twenty-five airports have been added to the aviation network under the regional connectivity scheme -13 airports under the scheme are being upgraded
