SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAYS Recognizing the efforts of SWR undertaken for improving Safety, Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Railways & Coal awarded the Railway Minister's Safety Shield for 2017- 18 to South Western Railway in an annual award event. 2. REASON FOR SELECTION - improvements in key areas of Safety pertaining to train operations among all Zonal Railways. -The number of accidents has come down in SWR from 11 in 2014-15 to 8 in 2015 16, 3 in 2016-17 to 01 in 2017-18.
STANFORD UNIVERSITY 1. LICENSE PLATES 1. ELECTRIC VEHICLE To promote electric vehicles in India, the government has approved green licence plates bearing numbers in white fonts for private e-vehicles and yellow for taxis. 2. CERTAIN RELAXATION The government also plans to allow youth in the age bracket of 16-18 years to drive electric scooters, besides mandating taxi aggregators to have a certain percentage of e-vehicle fleet. 3. CHINA 1.LONGEST BRIDGE India's longest road and railway bridge connecting Dibrugarh in Assam to Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh is likely to be inaugurated later this year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 2. CHINA 1. GAOFEN 5 China has launched the Gaofen-5 hyperspectral imaging satellite. Launched on 9 May 2018 from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in northern Shanxi province, it is the latest of 15 satellite launches that China has made this year. 2. FIGHTER AIRPLANES India has decided to station fighter airplanes in the Andaman and Nicober Islands to strengthen India's hold over the crucial Malacca, Sunda, and Lumbok Strait and the Straits of Ombai Wetar and the eastern Indian Ocean Region. 2. wWiI This is the first time fighter airplanes will be positioned in Andaman and Nicobar islands since World War II. -The Malacaa, Sunda and Lumbok straits are narrow ocean passes that connect the Indian Ocean to the South China Sea.
