  2. NASA'S MISSION 1. STUDY DEEP MARS The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)'s first ever mission to study Mars' deep interiors is due to launch soon. 2. INSIGHT The Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations Geodesy and Heat Transport (InSight) lander will take off on 5 May from the Space Launch Complex-3 at the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California aboard a United Launch Atlas V rocket. 3. MARSCC NASA will also launch its MarsCubeOne or MarsCO satellites.

  4. CPCB 1. ORDER RELATED TO PART POPPERS Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has banned party poppers on the grounds that the devices posed a health risk. 2. WHAT IS A PARTY POOPER? It is a sealed cardboard case, as big as a rolled-up newspaper, and stuffed with shredded paper and glitter. Pulling an attached string sets off a mild, chemical explosive, which 'pops' open the case and releases a confetti of coloured paper and glitter. 3. REASONS -Composed of red-phosphorous, potassium chlorate and potassium perchlorate, are harmful to human health and environment. -poppers that don't rely on the chemical explosive are fine.

  7. TRACK II DIPLOMACY 1. NEEMRANA DIALOGUE The original Track Il initiative received a fresh start when a high-powered delegation of former Indian diplomats, military veterans and academics travelled to Pakistan on 28 April to discuss ways to improve the India-Pakistan relationship. 2. NAME OF THE DIALOGUE The bilateral dialogue gets its name from the Neemrana Fort, where it was first held in 1991-1992 3. Earlier, India and Pakistan had held a Track II dialogue when Prime Minister Narendra Modi had met then Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Ufa, Russia.


  8. TRILATERAL SUMMIT 1. BETWEEN South Korea, China and Japan will hold a trilateral summit in Tokyo next week 2. HEADS OF THE THREE NATIONS The gathering on 9 May will bring together the South's President Moon Jae-in, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, in the neighbours' first such meeting for more than two years. 3. TOPICS OF DISCUSSION -will share the result of the inter-Korea summit and discuss ways to strengther trilateral cooperation. -resolve the abduction, missile and nuclear issues


  9. INTERNSHIP 1. SWACH BHARAT INTERNSHIP The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Swachh Bharat Mission, in association with the Ministry of Human Resource Development, has come up with the innovative 'Swachh Bharat Summer Internship (SBSI) 2018 2. AIM? engaging the college youth with Swachhata work in villages in the coming Summer vacation. This is in line with the Prime Minister's clarion call on 2nd October 2014 for each individual to devote 100 hours to Swachhata through the year 3. TERMS OF THE INTERNSHIP candidates would be required to undertake 100 hours of activities including shramdaan, creation of sanitation infrastructure, system building, behaviour change campaigns and other IEC initiatives in and around nearby villages.


  10. DALMIA 1. GANDIKOTA FORT Dalmia Bharat group is gearing up to start work on the 14th century Gandikota Fort in Andhra Pradesh under the government's 'Adopt a Heritage' scheme. 2. CONTRACT The contract for the Gandikota Fort located in the Kadapa district of the state was signed by the Dalmia Bharat group on the same day as it signed the Red Fort decl with the Union ministries of tourism and culture and the Archaeological Survey of India, on April 9, 2018. 3. RED FORT AND GANDIKOTA FORT both contracts are for five years initially, after which they can be extended on mutually agreeable terms by the government and the corporate house.
