In BANGLADESH the Ganges branches into two distributaries- the Bhagirathi and the Padma rivers. While Meghna is formed inside Bangladesh in Kishoreganj District above the town of Bhairab Bazar by the joining of the Surma and the Kushiyara, both of which originate in the hilly regions of eastern India as the Barak River.

the Brahmaputra upon reaching Bangladesh splits int o two main distributaries, the Jamuna and the Meghna. Both enter Bangladesh at different points. The Jamuna falls into the Padma from where on the river is continued to be called the Padma. The Padma then falls into the Meghna and is continued to be called the Meghna until it reaches the Bay of Bengal where it has it's mouth.
