DISCUSS THE HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVES OF THE FORMATION OF INDIAN STATE OF ASSAM Assam also known as Land of red river and blue hills The Mighty river of Brahmaputra flows through it serving as a lifeline for its people settled on both the sides of its banks The word Assam is believed to be derived from Sanskrit word asoma or came from the word ahoms who ruled Assam for 600 years prior to the annexation by British "Assam was known as pragjyotisha or the place of eastern astronomy during the Epic period and later was named as Kamrup a time when ahoms for losing their ground to British under the Treaty of yandaboo Burmese entered through the Eastern borders and overrun the territory at "it became a British protectorate in 1826 when the Burmese ceded Assam
