GS3 COMPENSATORY AFFORESTATION HAS FAILED IN INDIA CRITICALLY ANALYSE THE STATEMENT e Compensatory afforestation is seen as a compromise between ecological requirements and developmental aspirations e Can forest be replaced by a plantation e A well researched method of afforestation based on scientific principles must be carried out
Disadvantages of compensatory afforestation 1. Growing trees is not a substitute for habitat Destruction 2. Availability of a compensatory land is one of the key issues 3. Site of afforestation is not based on botany, or geographical study. It is merely based on availability
GS1 O BUDHISM WAS ONE OF THE FIRST GLOBALISATION WAVES OF INDIA.DISCUSS THE SPREAD OF BUDDHISM OUT OF THE INDIAN SUBCONTINENT Ashoka promoted Buddhist expansion by sending monks to surrounding territories to share the teachings of the Buddha. A wave of conversion began, and Buddhism spread not only through India, but also internationally. Ceylon, Burma, Nepal, Tibet, central Asia, China, and Japan are just some of the regions where the Middle Path was widely accepted. With the great spread of Buddhism, it traditional practices and philosophies became redefined and regionally distinct. Only a small minority practiced the earliest forms of Buddhism, and Buddhist influence as a whole began to fade within India. Some scholars believe that many Buddhist practices were simply absorbed into the tolerant Hindu faith.
. The spread of Buddhism' charts the movement of the religion through Asia. Emperor Ashoka converted to Buddhism after a particularly bloody conquest, and sent missionaries to other lands. In India itself Buddhism flourished before Muslim invaders nearly purged the land of Buddhists entirely. Buddhism was mainly transmitted to other countries by missionaries, scholars, trade emigration, and communication networks. The Therav da sect dominates in South Asia Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Myanmar. In North Asia, Mah y na Buddhism has complemented Chinese Confucianism and Taoism. . The religion has also been adapted into Japanese Zen Buddhism, and Tibetan Buddhism has given rise to the Dalai Lamas.
