Introduction
MBBS is a primary degree that has been delivered by medical schools and provides permission to start a medical practice. This medical degree has been shown as two separate degrees but usually, it is treated as one combined degree. Those who are interested in establishing themselves as a doctor, need to complete this course to become registered doctors. After completing MBBS, doctors apply for specialization degrees regarding medical practice.
MBBS Full Form
The full form of MBBS is Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
Those students are willing to be doctors in the future. They need to complete an MBBS course after completing higher secondary education. Every country has its own exam structure for selecting candidates for this course. By completing that medical degree candidates have become eligible for medical practice.
During this medical course, a student learns about the following courses –
- Anatomy
- Pathological Science
- Pharmacology.

Course Duration – This medical course duration is required for 5 and half years including internship.
Who is eligible?
- To appear for the MBBS examination, the candidates must have to score at least 50% in their 10+2 papers.
- For the reserved category candidates i.e. SC/ST/OBC, they should have at least 40% marks in their qualifying exam to pursue MBBS.
- The students who come from the Science stream with Biology, Physics and Chemistry as subject combinations are allowed to study MBBS.
- NEET clearance is mandatory for all the candidates.
What is the NEET Exam?
NEET stands for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam that is conducted on the National level for the candidates to pursue the MBBS course. NEET has two provisions for undergraduate and postgraduate courses under the NEET UG and NEET PG tests.
Why is NEET mandatory for MBBS?
NEET is the exam that allows the candidates to establish their medical career in the country after completing their MBBS course. No candidates will be allowed to sit in the exam without the NEET certificate. To start the medical journey from a very recognized university the candidates must also have the NEET exam clearance certificate.
What are the eligibility criteria for the NEET exam?
The candidates who want to appear for the NEET exam 2022, should check the following eligibility criteria before applying for the courses:
- The general category candidates can apply from their 17 years of age to 25 years.
- The reserved category candidates such as SC/ST/OBC will get 5 extra years for the same.
- Such candidates should have completed their class 12 board examination with Chemistry, Physics and Biology.
- In the 10+2 examination, the general category candidates should have at least 50% scores while the reserved candidates should have 40% scores as the qualifying marks.
- To appear for the NEET examination, they should have come from a very recognized university.
Details of MBBS course
Appearing in a medical exam, a student is required to appear in the national eligibility cum entrance test (NEET). According to the NEET ranking, students get an opportunity for admission to private and government medical institutions. Around eight lakh candidates attend the medical entrance exam in India where one lakh become successful and get admission in medical schools and the rest of the candidates are going to foreign countries for medical education.

- Anandibai Gopalrao Joshi (31 March 1865 – 26 February 1887) was the first Indian female doctor of western medicine.
