VLDL Full Form

The full form of VLDL is Very Low-Density Lipoprotein. Lipoproteins are the composition of fats and proteins that are present in the blood of the human body.

Very Low-Density Lipoprotein is generally the combination of fats and proteins that are found in the blood of the human body. The lipoproteins are differentiated based on their densities. Very low-Density Lipoprotein is referred to as bad cholesterol. Very low-density lipoproteins are a type of lipoproteins that are made up by the liver and their density is mostly related to extracellular water. Very low-density lipoproteins come as the fifth lipoprotein in the group of lipoproteins that can move the fats and cholesterol in the water-like bloodstream in the human body.

To understand VLDL in more detail one must be clear about the Concepts of cholesterol and triglycerides, very important components of fats. Cholesterol and triglycerides are two components of fats that are lipid substances that never dissolve in blood. Because of this, they are being carried out by a specific type of protein and this protein further covers the lipid into dissolving fatty substance and therefore it becomes lipoproteins.  Very low-density lipoproteins are formed in the liver with the help of apolipoproteins, cholesterol, and triglycerides. Within the bloodstream, the very low-density lipoproteins are transformed into immediate density lipoproteins (IDL) and low-density lipoproteins (LDL). Generally, very-low-density lipoprotein particles have a diameter of 30 to 80 nm. Scientists have classified lipoproteins based on their sizes and the number of specific proteins, or cholesterol and triglycerides they carry. For instance, high density lipoproteins have a good amount of protein but are small and dense and the low-density lipoproteins are less dense in comparison with High density lipoproteins but carry more amount of cholesterol. Very low-density lipoproteins are even less dense than VDL but they contain more triglycerides than cholesterol. As a result, the liver releases very low-density lipoprotein particles in the blood, and further these particles are converted into low density lipoprotein particles because they lose the triglycerides that they are taking to the other parts of the body. 

Functions of VLDL 

Very low-density lipoproteins can be harmful in a few terms if their range is too high in a human body in that case VLDL is harmful to the body. Other than that, Very Low-Density Lipoprotein plays a vital role in the human body; these are loosen up in the liver and flow down into the bloodstream. The VLDL contains and carries a variety of types of fats, cholesterol, specific proteins, and triglycerides to the cell. Very low-density lipoproteins function as the body’s interior transport system for lipids. Additionally, the VLDL performs for long-level transportation of hydrophobic intercellular messengers in the body. 

Are Very Low-Density Lipoprotein Harmful? 

It is very normal to have very low-density lipoproteins contained in the human body. However, health risks might increase if the amount of Very Low-Density Lipoprotein becomes very high and as a result, it can lead to health problems like stroke or heart attack. As per the reports of American Heart Association guidelines in 2018, it was observed that VLDL has a good amount of contribution to Atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a harmful disease just like the plague which is formed slowly and gradually in the blood vessels. In the future, this disease can lead to harmful health issues like a heart attack. Low density lipoproteins and Very Low-Density Lipoprotein are referred to as bad cholesterol vas because these two can lead to diseases like atherosclerosis and many other Harmful diseases and health problems. On the other hand, High-Density lipoproteins are proteins that protect the body from health problems and harmful diseases including atherosclerosis, because of this fact high density lipoproteins are often termed good cholesterol.
