Population Growth

This article will explore content and information based on population growth and the multiple factors that significantly affect it.

Introduction

The population is growing at an alarming rate. Given the challenges it brings along, little can be done to sort the issues. Currently, countries such as China, India, and even Japan are the most populated countries globally. For the first time in human history, the world’s total population surpassed one billion people at the beginning of the nineteenth century. This was followed by an exponential rise in the pace of growth that peaked in the early 20th century and subsequently moderated. Currently, there are 7 billion people on the planet; by 2045, that number is predicted to rise to 9 billion.

If total fertility continues to fall at its current pace, it will have an impact on the long-term trend. Education, reproductive health, and child survival must be improved if total fertility is to be reduced faster. According to recent data based on the world population growth rate, more than 7.9 billion people will be living in 2020. It will further increase up to 9.8 billion by the year 2050, and it will exceed more than 11.2 billion by the year 2100. Things will worsen with the current population growth rate in the coming years.

These data are disturbing, and according to the different population models, things will worsen when we talk about population growth. There are various reasons for such an increase in population. To list some of them, we can always go for better infrastructure, healthcare facilities, low mortality rate, and more.

Population Explosion

Population explosion is a term given to the rise in population. Surprisingly, the increase in population was expected to be balanced. Nevertheless, it grew in a geometrical pattern that increased the entire population and boosted the growth in the population that no one expected. There are various reasons for the population explosion in countries like India. Some of them are mentioned below-

  • Better healthcare- with the growing technology and the advancement in biology and medicine, there is an increase in healthcare facilities. People get high-quality health care with minimal struggle nowadays in hospitals. With better health care facilities, most children get vaccinated for numerous significant diseases when the birth process is going on. On the other hand, there are innumerable cures available for various diseases. The durability of healthcare is appreciable these days. You can also notice that free healthcare services have become more evident these days
  • Increase in the number of births- The birth rate is growing fast as a result of a lack of control over delivery and a general lack of knowledge among the general public. Furthermore, the chasm that exists between death and birth has become far broader than anything we can imagine. Furthermore, as compared to the mortality rate, the birth rate has grown by a factor of several times
  • Illiteracy is at an all-time high- One of the most difficult challenges in family planning is the low literacy level of women. In India, people place little value on women’s education and marry them off at a young age. They are thus ignorant about birth control techniques and the usage of contraceptives as a result of their upbringing
  • Lack of education- In developing countries such as India, due to the lack of education, people still don’t know about contraceptives or the way to use them correctly. Lack of education, especially in the orthodox areas in the lower societies, is one of the leading causes of population explosion. People don’t understand the concept of contraceptives and find them uncomfortable

Growth Models

To simplify growth models for you, we have classified them into three main types.

  • Stabilising growth model
  • Declining growth model
  • Growing or increasing growth model

The stabilising growth model is a model in which the kids and the old age people are basically the same in number. Moreover, the young generation or the adult generation is the most in the number.

The stabilising growth model is something that is preferred, and it is appreciable. There are numerous data scientists that predict this one to be the best growth model. When the number of adults who are actively reproducing is limited, then the population will eventually collapse. This might not be a good population growth model for populations that need growth, but on the other hand, countries such as India need such stabilising models.

In the growing or the increasing growth pattern, the kids are the most in the number with the youngsters being the intermediate and older generation being the least.

In a growing population, there are kids or the young ones as the main population. Such a population won’t quickly lead to population explosion, but eventually, with the growing time, if the population model remains constant on the growth model, it will eventually lead to population explosion.

In the countries where population explosion has been seen, you can observe the growing growth pattern easily.

A declining growth pattern is a model that has a vast number of older adults. Such a population will eventually decline, and there is no population explosion expected.

Conclusion

To summarise, the population boom has resulted in enormous pressure being exerted on the earth’s surface. Furthermore, by limiting population increase, we may have greater control over a variety of environmental challenges. Furthermore, by managing the population, numerous issues such as food insecurity, illiteracy, poverty, and unemployment may be reduced to a minimum. There are a variety of approaches that may be used to avert a population boom. As part of its population-awareness efforts, the government should educate people about different strategies for curbing population growth that are now available. Additionally, it should launch a comprehensive effort to promote family planning and birth control.
