Madam, I have two queries in this lesson. 1. What is the necessity of renaming SAI as Sports India ? 2. Regarding MoU b/w: ICAI and SOCPA what will be the validity time period of any MoU ? pls ignore if these are irrelevant for UPSC . thank you

Hello 1. The sports body, established in 1984 had organised its 50th meeting wherein they took this decision. The only statement that has been made by the sports minister is that "Authority" is no longer relevant in sports. they have taken certain other measures as well. 2. Since this MOU was signed in 2014, now the approval has been given for renewal of the MoU. I m not sure as to the term of this renewal.

  3. WIPO TREATY 1. ACCESSION TO THE TREATY Cabinet approves accession to WIPO Copyright Treaty, 1996 and WIPO Performance and Phonograms Treaty, 1996. 2. WHAT IS IT ABOUT -It has provisions to extend the protection of copyrights contained therein to the digital environment. -Further it recognises the rights specific to digital environment. 3. RENAMED TO SPORTS INDIA Union Ministers of Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Rathore announced that the national sports body, Sports Authority of India (SAI), will now be known as 'Sports India'. 2. WHAT IS SPORTS AUTHORITY OF INDIA -an apex National Sports body set up in 1984 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of Government of India for the development of sport in India. -On 25 January 1984, "Sports Authority of India" was established as a registered society by the "Department of Sports" of Government of India's Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports

  6. ICAI AND SOCPA 1. MOU The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave its ex- post facto approval for the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in 2014 and approval for renewal of MoU between the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and Saudi Organisation for Certified Public Accountants (SOCPA) in Saudi Arabia. 2. ABOUT THE MOU -to work together to develop a mutually beneficial relationship in the best interest of ICAI members, students and their organisations. -ill foster strong working relations between the ICAI and SOCPA, thus giving strong professional opportunities to the Indian Chartered Accountants in India.
