  2. EU JAPAN 1. FREE TRADE DEALS The European Union and Japan signed a monumental trade dealTuesday, eliminating nearlyall tariffs between the entities in one of the world's largest free-trade deals. 2. SIGNING OF THE DEAL The deal was established primarily lastyear, but the signing was delayed due to disastrous flooding in Japan that left more than 200 dead. 3. SIGNIFICANCE EPAremoves vast majority of 1 billion of duties paid annually by EU companies. It opens up Japanese marketof 127 million consumers.


  3. COMMITTEE FORMED 1. NCCAND NSS Government has decided to set up a committee under the Chairmanship of ShriAnil Swarup to suggest measures to strengthen National Cadet Corps (NCC) and National Service Scheme (NSS). 2. ISSUES TO BE DISCUSSED The Committee will deal with on issues like expansion, strengthening training infrastructure, rationalizing resources, reducing manpower deficiency affecting NCC and NSS. 3. ABOUT NCCAND NSS NSS is a Centrally Sector Scheme and was launched in the year 1969. It came into existence underthe National Cadet Corps Act XXXI of 1948

  5. Drone strategy for airports 1. BCAS . Aviation security watchdog BCAS has finalised a strategy to neutralise drones near airports, with the government setto unveil a framework to regulate unmanned aircraft systems in the country. 2. NOVEMBER - proposed to ban their operation within 5 km radius of an airport and 50 km from an international border. - Soft kill approach and not hard kill approach 3. First edition of Pondicherry International film Festival The festival organised by Pickurflick and Puducherry Tourism Department, which will begin on September 26, will be hosted at multiple locations across Puducherry. 2. RENAMING OF STATION Western Railway has changed the name of Elphinstone Road suburban railway station to Prabhadevi Station, effective from midnight of July 18. The station was initially named after Lord Elphinstone, who was the Governor of Bombay Presidency from 1853 to 1860.
