  3. UNMOGIP 1. CHIEF MILITARY OPERATOR UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has appointed a veteran Uruguay Army general as the chief military observer. 2. SUCCEED Major General Jose Eladio Alcain will succeed the incumbent UNMOGIP chief Major General Per Gustaf Lodin of Sweden, who will complete his two- year assignment this month. 3.   4. PAYMENTS COUNCIL OF INDIA 1. APPOINTMENTS -Payments Council of India (PCI), an apex body representing the companies in the payments and settlement system, has announced the appointment of Vishwas Patel,CEO of Infibeam Avenues, as its new chairman. -It has also announced the appointment of Loney Antony, Managing Director, Hitachi Payment Services, as its new co-chairman. 2. ABOUT PAYMENTS COUNCIL OF INDIA t was formed in 2013 under aegis of IAMAI (Internet and Mobile Association of India) to cater needs of digital payment industry in India.


  5. MOU 1. TELANGANA The Telangana Government said it has signed an MoU with Singapore- based Surbana Jurong for preparing a roadmap for Genome Valley 2.0, an upgraded version of life sciences and biotechnology industrial cluster near here 2. WHAT IS GENOME VALLEY The Genome Valley cluster has emerged as the largest life sciences destination in Asia, being home to over 200 companies employing 10,000 people. The cluster was conceptualized in 1999 in Shamirpet, Hyderabad, India. -It is already home to multinationals such as Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline, DuPont, Mylan, US Pharmacopeia among others.


  6. DNA TECHNOLOGY REG BILL 2018 1. APPROVED -Cabinet has approved DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill, 2018. -PURPOSE OF THE BILL: expanding application of DNA based forensic technologies to support and strengthen the justice delivery system of the country. 2. IMPORTANCE enable the cross-matching between persons who have been reported missing -in solving cases involving offences that are categorized as affecting the human body -Speedier justice delivery and also in increased conviction rates


  7. SUPREME COURT 1. RBI'S DECISION The Supreme Court refused to stay a Reserve Bank of India (RBI) circular prohibiting banks and financial institutions from dealing in virtual currencies such as Bitcoin. 2. BAN ON VIRTUAL CURRENCY With no interim stay on the circular, all virtual currency transactions through banks would be blocked from 6 July, effectively resulting in a ban. 3. BENCH A bench comprising chief justice Dipak Misra and justices A.M. Khanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud was hearing a petition filed by the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) challenging the 6 April RBI circular
