APPOINTMENTS -Payments Council of India (PCI), an apex body representing the companies in the payments and settlement system, has announced the appointment of Vishwas Patel,CEO of Infibeam Avenues, as its new chairman. -It has also announced the appointment of Loney Antony, Managing Director, Hitachi Payment Services, as its new co-chairman. 2. MOU 1. TELANGANA The Telangana Government said it has signed an MoU with Singapore- based Surbana Jurong for preparing a roadmap for Genome Valley 2.0, an upgraded version of life sciences and biotechnology industrial cluster near here 2. WHAT IS GENOME VALLEY The Genome Valley cluster has emerged as the largest life sciences destination in Asia, being home to over 200 companies employing 10,000 people. The cluster was conceptualized in 1999 in Shamirpet, Hyderabad, India. -It is already home to multinationals such as Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline, DuPont, Mylan, US Pharmacopeia among others.
DNA TECHNOLOGY REG BILL 2018 1. APPROVED -Cabinet has approved DNA Technology (Use and Application) Regulation Bill, 2018. -PURPOSE OF THE BILL: expanding application of DNA based forensic technologies to support and strengthen the justice delivery system of the country. 2. SUPREME COURT 1. RBI'S DECISION The Supreme Court refused to stay a Reserve Bank of India (RBI) circular prohibiting banks and financial institutions from dealing in virtual currencies such as Bitcoin. 2. BAN ON VIRTUAL CURRENCY With no interim stay on the circular, all virtual currency transactions through banks would be blocked from 6 July, effectively resulting in a ban. 3.
