The All India Institutes of Medical Science is India’s most popular medical institute. All India Institute Of Medical Science is a government medical university for the public of India and regulated by the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India. The All India Institutes Of Medical Science are designed under the parliamentary act. The first institute of AIIMS was established in the year of 1956. From 1956, the establishment of 22 Institutes was announced, in which 19 are currently running. The remaining five were expected to start running from 2025.

History of AIIMS

The AIIMS was established in 1956. The idea of the All India institute of medical science first came into the brain of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of India. Jawaharlal Lal Nehru wanted to establish AIIMS in Calcutta. Still, due to the proposal rejection by Bidhan Chandra Roy, Chief Minister of West Bengal, it was established in New Delhi on February 8th, 1956.

Eligibility criteria for appearing in AIIMS examination

Every year, the government organizes the entrance examination of AIIMS to select the best medical students. Firstly, students have to appear in the examination. Then, based on the score, he gets the college. Despite all these things, aspirants must meet the eligibility criteria of AIIMS. The eligibility criteria are cataloged here:

  1. In senior secondary education, aspirants must obtain a minimum of 60% if they fall under General and Other backward classes. And, aspirants have to obtain a minimum of 50% if he is especially skilled and falls under the category of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe category.

  2. An aspirant should be 17 years old.

  3. Indian citizens and Non-resident Indians both can apply to this examination.

  4. Indian citizens must register their name under the Indian Citizenship Act, especially in section 7A.

  5. Aspirants should have English, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry as their main subjects.

AIIMS Exam pattern

The question paper of AIIMS consists of 200 questions. All the questions in the paper are Multiple choice questions and questions based on Reason or Assertions. Every subject consists of a different number of questions. Here, the number of questions of every subject is cataloged:

  • Chemistry: 60 questions

  • Physics: 60 questions

  • Biology: 60 questions (Both combining zoology and botany)

  • General knowledge and aptitude: 40 questions

The aspirant will get one mark for every correct answer. On the other side, one-third will deduct automatically from attempting the wrong question. It means if the aspirants answer one question wrongly, then his 0.75 will be deducted automatically from the obtained marks. If the question is left unmarked or blank, no marks will be given or deducted.

Aspirants can write the exam in either Hindi or English language. Total 3 hours and 30 minutes were given to the students for attempting the whole paper.
