On the 5th of July 2021, the Department of School Education and Literacy, in collaboration with the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Samagra Shiksha, launched the National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN Bharat Programme), a National Mission to Foundational Literacy and Numeracy. In primary schools, the purpose is to attain universal fundamental literacy and numeracy. The NIPUN Bharat Programme Guidelines establish priorities and action plans for States and UTs to realize the objective of every child being proficient in foundational literacy and numeracy by grade three. The NIPUN Bharat Programme’s detailed guidelines have been produced, including codifying development goals and learning outcomes for children aged 3 to 9. 

What is NIPUN Bharat Scheme? 

NIPUN Bharat Programme aims to change a disjointed educational system into an integrated, entertaining, all-inclusive, and engaging one. It tells teachers and educators how to create a study plan that will help pupils improve their literary and fundamental language skills. Furthermore, as part of Sagra Siksha, it will seek to keep pupils in school until they have completed their basic learning, improve learning or training modules, increase teacher capacity, and track each child’s progress.
