Taiwan loses diplomatic Ally Nicaragua to China

The Diplomatic relations with Taiwan with many countries are in grave danger, as it can be seen that China has been poaching all the allies of Taiwan and completely alienating them so that they can make them fall into their policy which says that there is only one China and Taiwan a territory of China, not an independent country.

As times have passed many countries have broken ties with Taiwan and joined hands with China for their benefit and also as a threat to the country as they are one of the strongest in the whole world.

Taiwan lost diplomatic Ally Nicaragua to China

Taiwan has lost Nicaragua diplomatically soon after the Central American countries said that they will officially recognize the only China policy, which means they are claiming that self-ruled Taiwan is a part of China’s territory. 

The government of Nicaragua has made its official statement that “there is only one China”. They have also said that they believe in the Republic of China and their legitimate government which according to them represents all of China including Taiwan which is an inalienable region of the territory of China. With that being said, the Nicaraguan government has broken its diplomatic ties with Taiwan.

It is visible that China is poaching all the diplomatic allies of Taiwan in the past few years, multiple countries have shut down their diplomatic relationship with Taiwan and alienated them. Taiwan is now only left with 14 diplomatic allies, Mostly, there are smaller and poorer nations present in the western part of the Pacific, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

As time passes there is an increase in the isolation of the country internationally. Not just Nicaragua but also the Solomon Islands have also chosen to cut ties with Taiwan in the year 2019. Although, Country Nicaragua established its relations with Taiwan back in the 1990s, when President Violeta Chamorro got the power after the defeat of Ortega’s Sandinista Regime. 

Many different countries are unofficially supporting Taiwan such as the United States, yet Taiwan is suffering a tremendous loss due to China for the past few years. It is also said that over the years Taiwan has been supporting Nicaragua financially but still the country backed off when it was it’s time to support Taiwan. It is also noted that Nicaragua is one of the countries that have signed massive projects for more than $ 3 trillion.

As it has been mentioned in the article above that Nicaragua has cut ties with Taiwan and joined hands with the One China Policy which claims that Taiwan is a part of Chinese territory. Although over the years Taiwan has shown great support to Nicaragua still turned its backs on Taiwan.

Now, there are only 14 diplomatic allies of Taiwan, and there are many bigger countries that help and support Taiwan without being their official ally such as the United States. As they have also shown they’re criticized when the country cut its ties with Taiwan
