  4. A British writer, poet and playwright, William Golding is one of the leading writers of the 20th century. Starting his career as a teacher, Golding enlisted himself in the Royal Navy and had first hand experience of action against battleships, submarines and aircraft. After the war he resumed teaching, and began to write his first novel, Lord of the Flies, that got published in 1954. From 1960s onwards he dedicated himself completely to the writing and incorporating Christian symbolism and mythology, wrote some of the classical works of the second half of the 20th Century.

  7. LORD OF THE FLIES 1954 One of the classics of modern literature, this novel by Golding is assort of dystopian novel written specifically to counter R.M. Ballantyne's youth novel The Coral Island. It is divided into 12 chapters: 1. The Sound of the Shell 2. Fire on the Mountain 3. Huts on the Beach 4. Painted Faces and Long Hair 5. Beast from Water 6.   8. During a war, a plane escorting a band of boys is shot down and the boys without any adult company get marooned on a deserted island. Two of the boys, Ralph and Piggy find a conch shell & Ralph blows into it assemble the other boys The boys decide to elect aleader and Jack and Ralph contest for the post as Ralph gets elected. He appoints Jack as the leader of the boys' hunting group. Ralph, Jack, and Simon begin to explore the island and discover wild pigs. At the next meeting, a boy says that he has seen a, 'beastie' but Ralph dismisses it as just a nightmare.

  9. Ralph then plans to build a signal fire for any passing ships to see its smoke and rescue them. They use Piggy's glasses to make a fire but carelessly set a part of the forest on the fire, .At first the boys enjoy a carefree life however, Ralph starts to feel tense and also irritated by being left alone in his work of making shelter and keeping the fire burning. Jack seems to be preoccupied with hunting and always like to poke fun of Piggy who often wanders off to meditate. The tension between Ralph and Jack reaches its peak when jack forcefully takes the boys responsible for keeping fire for hunting. They are able to kill a pig but unfortunately a ship passes without stopping because of no fire. .

  10. When Piggy criticizes Jack, he hits Piggy. Jack calls a meeting, where many . boys talk of a fearful beast. Soon after the meeting, at night, a dead parachutist drifts to earth on the signal-fire mountain unseen by any boy. Two boys, Sam and Eric take the corpse shadow to be that of the beast and run and inform other ones. Soon Ralph and Jack lead an expedition to search the island for the beast and they also are deluded by the huge shadow of the dead body. . . The next morning, Jack challenges Ralph's authority calling him a cowardbut still most boys back Ralph.

  11. Simon comes down to tell the boys the reality. However others, even Ralph and Piggy, have joined Jack in a chaotic revelry. when they see Simon's shadowy figure coming out, they fall upon him and kill him with their bare hands and teeth. . Next day, jack and his boys attack Ralph and Piggy, stealing Piggy's glasses. Samneric tries to convince Jack to return the glasses but they are tied and jack attacks Ralph.A boy Roger rolls a boulder thus killing Piggy and Ralph also runs to escape from now boys turned savage. . The next boy, the boys set the forest on fire hunting for Ralph and he evading them like a hunted animal. Finally, Ralph reaches the beach where an English naval officer has come attracted by the smoke. . The boys started crying informing about the killing. Disappointed by the behaviour of English boys, the officer look at his warship.
