From ancient times, India has been a major player in the field of scientific developments and their applications. In recent times it is evident from the scientific development in the field of Space, Information Technology, Biotechnology, nanotechnology etc. that India is on the right path to achieve great heights in the field of science and technology. Applications and effects of these developments in day-to-day life, makes these developments worthwhile and noticeable, for example application of space satellites in Mapping, Communication and Navigation. Many of the technology has been indigenized and are being produced with the foreign collaboration like development and production of BrahMos with Russia. Awareness in the field of Information Technology, computers and robotics as a major development in India is also equally important to mention, for example development like use of supercomputers in weather research etc.

Nanotechnology has been proved to be very useful in the field of Medical Sciences, Agriculture Sciences, Industrial technology etc. Biotechnology has also been a field where India has proved itself to be a major player. In recent times the role of biotechnology has increased due to events like corona pandemic, Increase in prevalence of viral diseases, Vaccine development etc. All these innovations and developments are being fruitful only when they are being protected with a robust Intellectual Property Rights regime. India in this direction has enacted various acts such as the Designs Act, 2000, Trade Mark Act, 1999, Copyright (Amendment) Act, 2012, Patents Act, 1970 and others.
