Benefits of NCTE
There are many benefits of having a body like NCTE regulating teacher education. Some of these benefits are as follows:
- Teachers who graduate from institutions that are recognised by NCTE are more likely to be competent and skilled This is because these institutions have to meet certain standards set by the council.
- NCTE also provides accreditation to teacher education institutions. This accreditation is a mark of quality, and it ensures that the institution is up to par with international standards.
- The council also offers National Eligibility Tests (NET) for teachers. This test is mandatory if you want to teach in any government school or college in India.
- NCTE conducts workshops and seminars on various topics related to teaching. This helps teachers keep up with the latest trends and developments in the field.
So, these are some of the reasons why NCTE is important. If you are planning to pursue a career in teaching, then you should definitely take a look at what this council has to offer.
Functions of NCTE
NCTE performs the following functions:
- It conducts surveys of teacher education
- It advises the Central and State Governments on all matters relating to teacher education
- It specifies the minimum qualifications for a person to be eligible for appointment as a teacher in schools
- It recognizes courses and programs leading to a teaching qualification
- It derecognizes courses and programs which do not meet the minimum prescribed standards
- It registers teachers and authorises them to teach in schools

Why is NCTE Important?
NCTE is important because it provides a National Framework for Teacher Education (NFTE) which serves as a guideline for the Central and State Governments in the formulation and implementation of their policies and programs relating to teacher education. It also ensures that the minimum prescribed standards are met by all institutions and programs engaged in teacher education. By doing so, it ensures that only properly qualified and competent teachers are appointed to teach in schools. This, in turn, helps to improve the quality of education being imparted in schools.
