2nd January, 2017: Editorial Analysis of The Hindu and other Newspapers
Caste is a salient feature of Indian society. Marginalisation of certain sections is a corollary of this.Due to this our Constitution makers gave a provision of “affirmative action” in Article 16(4) of our Constitution. However, the resultant reservations have created discontent among people.Jats,Gujjars, and Maratha’s demand for inclusion in reserved caste is a manifestation of same.To bring any attitudinal change a two front action is required, institutional and societal. The approach should be: Institutional: Govt should focus on job creation as it would blow of the steam of youth and other caste. Setting up of more educational institutions should be emphasised. Schemes like Start up India should be promoted. With increasing business the anger of masses will automatically go down Present measures like Prevention of Atrocities against SC/ST should be properly enforced. It would be a bulwark against resentment. Societal: A sustained campaign though mass media is required.People should be made aware of the reason of existence of such reservations. Messages should be spread that its cause of discrimination meted out by people themselves. If they start assimilating marginalised sections in society than gradually and slowly reservation can be done away with. Exercises like done by a Bihar DM by eating food cooked by a Dalit widow should be promoted. It would lead people to join your cause. Lessons in equality and fraternity should be given in schools. By adopting a mix of above we can bring significant changes in attitudes of people. Both institutional as well as moral checks should be created against this notion of resentment.Only then can we move towards an ethical society and “dignity of all” as enshrined in Preamble would be upheld.
Excellent answer Hardik. I really liked your 2 pronged approach as well as your Bihar DM example :)

very well written and have lot of positivity, one more point, (though it is late for me to answer here )is judgment like SC gave yesterday that election should be secular is also an affirmative step and should be included as model code of conduct in elections. political divide breaks.
