Why Is the Central Government Celebrating Good Governance Week Every Year?

‘The Union Government’ launched a nationwide good governance week, celebrated every year from 20th to 25th December, to dispose and redress the public grievances, promoting public delivery at the grassroots level. The union government has selected 25th December to celebrate “good governance day” in order to celebrate the birth anniversary of the former prime minister of India, ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee’. Since then, the government is celebrating the good government week to let the citizens know about the services, mottos, objectives and the duties of the government to the citizens of the country. It also includes the government’s desire to inform the future generation about the responsibilities and objectives of Good Governance Week.

The objective of Good Governance Week 

The Union government started a special program in order to maintain, regulate and conduct the affairs of the government. India’s former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was awarded with Bharat Ratna on 23rd December 2015. After the award ceremony, the newly elected prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, announced that henceforth the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee would be celebrated as a good governance day, and 20th to 25th December will be celebrated as good governance week every year. 

There are several objectives of Good Governance Week wishes to fulfil while celebrating the good governance week. One of the main aims of the good governance week is to observe the business of public affairs to ensure human rights. This event was organized through a nationwide campaign to redress public grievances and also improve service delivery. 

The theme of Good Governance Week 

The good governance week is said to have been celebrated for some specific goals and objectives. Governance always allows individuals to do their particular work in the best possible way. In that case, it is very important to select a particular theme on this matter. The theme of Good god governance week was ‘Prashasan Gaon Ki Aur’ in 2021. This was celebrated as a part of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

 This particular theme was chosen for the development and improvement of the government services to the grassroots labels and serves as the main objective of Good Governance Week. It further includes the fact that by choosing this particular theme, the government desires to deliver all possible services and conveniences to the village level. Dr Jitendra Singh, the ‘Union Minister,’ initiated ‘Prashasan Gaon Ki Aur’ as the theme of Good governance. Furthermore, it was aimed at good governance and also to motivate the stakeholder in the government as well as outside of the government. 

Campaign ‘Prashasan Gaon Ki Aur’ organized during good governance week focused on replicating and showcasing the various policies of the government in rural India. Nearly seven hundred district collectors participated in this campaign. During this campaign, the district collectors visited the headquarters of the Panchyat Samiti to give timely grievances and revamp the service delivery. Furthermore, it includes the fact of corruption-free and transparent services. It also includes the proper enforcement of the laws and regulations in the rural sides of the country.

 There are several events and strategies that were followed by the government to successfully fulfil the main objective of Good Governance Week every year. It further includes some of the key factors to regulate the whole process. Key Points of Good Governance Week are mentioned below-

• Many series of programs are initiated during the good governance week, which is aimed at highlighting the initiatives of several good governance policies. 
• It included the exhibition of the practices of the good governance policies.
• Good governance week also includes the fact of the successful application of the various schemes of the government and also observing whether it is implemented or not.
