Bharat Dynamics Limited is one of India’s leading missile and ammunition systems manufacturers. In the year 1970, Bharat Dynamics Limited was established in India. Today Bharat Dynamics Limited has evolved into one of the few established industries globally, having the state of art facilities for the supply and manufacture of underwater weapons, guided missiles, allied defence equipment, and airborne products for the Indian Armed Force. Bharat Dynamics Limited

Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) was founded in 1970 and evolved as one of India’s leading missile and ammunition systems manufacturers. They have established manufacturers of underwater weapons, guided missiles, allied defence equipment, and airborne products with a pool of engineers from Indian Factories, Ordnance, aerospace, and DRDO. Bharat dynamics limited began by producing a first-generation anti-tank guided missile, and this product was a culmination of a licence agreement. 

Establishment 

BDL has established its four manufacturing units, of which three are in Telangana state (Bhanur, Hyderabad, and Ibrahimpatnam), and one is in Andhra Pradesh (Visakhapatnam). Also, Bharat dynamic limited is setting up one of its units at Amravati – Maharashtra, to meet the demands and supply of the Indian Armed Forces.

Bharat Dynamics Limited Headquarters

The Bharat Dynamics Limited has its headquarters at Hyderabad, which was incorporated on 16 July 1970 by undertaking the Government of India, Ministry of defence, as its base manufacturing unit for guided missile systems and allied equipment for Indian Armed Forces.

Bharat dynamics limited has been taken by the Nation to develop sophisticated, indigenous, and contemporary missiles through the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP). It allowed BDL to be closely involved in the program to identify as the prime production agency and opened up a plethora of opportunities to assimilate advanced manufacturing and program management skills and technologies.

Bharat Dynamics Limited has been manufacturing several types of indigenous missiles and underwater weapons along with the support of DRDO. One such product is the Akash Weapon System, discovered as an indigenous missile for surface-to-air, which involves many supply chain partners from various industries. Similarly, BDL also produces products like Light Weight Torpedo and Heavy Weight Torpedo along with the DRDO at its Visakhapatnam Unit with active participation from the industry.

Operations and Services

  • Bharat Dynamics Limited is the agency for the production of missiles in India. The first missile that entered production with Bharat Dynamics Limited was the  Prithivi. It manufactures a wide range of missiles for the Indian Armed Forces. 
  • In 1998, Agni -I was introduced to the Indian Armed Forces. Also, it has Countermeasures Dispensing Systems (CMDS), which is a debris and flare dispensing system. It is an airborne defensive system that acts as self-protection to the aircraft by passive ECM against radar-guided and ground-launched missiles. The plane’s protection is achieved by misguiding the missiles by dispensing chaff and flare payloads.
  • MILAN 2T and Konkurs – M are the second-generation missile of tube-launched, semi-automatic, tracked missiles controlled with wire-guided missiles. They are designed to destroy stationary and moving armoured targets with explosive reactive armour at 75 metres to 4000 metres.
  • Invar is designed to destroy explosive reactive armour at 70km/hr. The missile act as a weapon fired from the Gun barrel T-90 tank. It has a tele-orienting laser beam and semi-automatic control system.

Bharat Dynamic Limited – Jhansi

Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for expanding a unit in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor. The honourable Prime Minister of India has laid the foundation stone ‘Shilanyas’ for setting up a manufacturing unit of Bharat Dynamics limited at Jhansi in the UP defence corridor. The upcoming unit of Bharat Dynamics Limited – Jhansi will be the sixth manufacturing unit of BDL and the first one in the Northern part of India, having its Bharat Dynamics Limited headquarters at Hyderabad.
