Body, liquid, and vapour temperature can all be determined with mercury thermometers. Households, lab experiments, and industrial uses all employ mercury thermometers.

Other materials, on the other hand, are more expensive to manufacture and have more limits due to the way the metal reacts to casting or because they have lower melting points (aluminium brake rotors would be a disaster). Of course, there are drawbacks, but the advantages far outnumber them.

A radiator will have many fins in contact with the tube conveying liquid pushed through the radiator to enhance the available surface area for heat exchange with the surroundings. Heat is carried away from the fins by air (or another external fluid). When dirt and damage to the fins obstructs airflow, the radiator loses its ability to transmit heat.

They can conduct electricity because electrons can flow freely within them. Conductors have the ability to convert light or heat from one source to another. When an electric charge is applied to an object, it is dispersed throughout the whole surface of the object, causing electrons to flow around within it.
