What Is Meniscus Tear?

The term “meniscus” is a C- shaped band of cartilage which goes around the knee joint and cushions around the junction of thigh bone (femur) and shinbone (tibia). It’s an inner (medial) meniscus and an outer (lateral) meniscus. Non-surgical treatment.

What is non-surgical treatment lateral meniscus tear?

Non-surgical treatment lateral meniscus tear is briefly described below –

  1. Treatment starts with the RICE technique. i.e., R – Rest, I – Ice, C – Compression, E – Elevation
  • Try to rest the knee and keep the pressure away from it for a few days.
  • Put ice on the knee for 10 – 15 minutes which helps to lessen any swelling.
  •  Swelling can also be reduced by wrapping the knee with an elastic dressing.
  • Try to sit or lie down with the knee and leg elevated above the heart; it will help to flow the blood towards the heart.

2.To reduce the pain we can take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) under the recommendation of a doctor. Some examples of NSAIDs are – aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen.

They will provide us with a daily routine of exercise that will stretch to enhance muscle strength, flexibility, stability and range of movement. It improvises the stability of balance and helps stave off another knee injury.

4.There are treatments in traditional Ayurveda as well. This is widely utilized in South Asia which eventually enables the reduction of pain, swelling, and motion constraint in meniscus tears.
