Antibiotics are used to treat gonorrhoea in adults. Due to drug-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae strains appearing, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends treating uncomplicated gonorrhoea with ceftriaxone — an injectable — and oral azithromycin (Zithromax).

If you have an allergy to cephalosporin antibiotics like ceftriaxone, you may be given oral gemifloxacin (Factive), injectable gentamicin, or oral azithromycin.

Antibiotics can be given to babies delivered to moms with gonorrhoea who develop the infection.

If left untreated, it can lead to long-term complications. There is now a greater understanding of the spread of the microbe Neisseria gonorrhoeae through sexual contact, as well as the historical understanding of the microbe. This understanding has resulted in an increased awareness of the spread of the microbe through sexual contact, as well as the historical understanding of the microbe. It is possible to prevent gonorrhoea and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) by using appropriate contraception and taking other precautions, such as: using male condoms or female condoms every time you have vaginal sex, or using male condoms when you have anal sex.
