LATITUDES AND LONGITUDES- CLASSIFICATION OF LONGITUDES AND LATITUDES

In the geographical coordinate system, “Longitude” generally calculates the distance or region between “east and west” of the “prime meridian” that is perpendicular to the earth’s surface. Latitude is an angle between the equatorial plane and a straight line that passes through the center of the earth. Torrid Zone is defined as a tropic or zones that surround the equator and it covers the equator up to the “tropic of Cancer in the northern hemisphere” and up to “tropic of Capricorn in the southern hemisphere”. In addition, “the temperate zone” is defined as the section or part connecting “the arctic circle” as well as “the tropic of cancer.”

What are “the latitudes” as well as “longitudes?”

Latitudes are angles measured in between the equatorial plane and straight line on the earth’s surface in the geographical coordinate system. In addition, it is specified from zero degrees and ends up from 90 degrees to both sides of the equator of earth’s surface such as the northern hemisphere as well as the southern hemisphere. Latitude is parallel to the equator of the earth’s surface. Furthermore, longitudes are defined as an angle from the prime meridian at Greenwich in the geographical coordinate system and it runs in a north-south direction. Moreover, it measures distance west and east of the “prime meridian” as well as lies in the plane that passes through the earth’s axis. Longitude crosses the equator perpendicularly and makes 90 degrees with the equator on the earth’s surface. In addition, the equator is characterized by zero degrees latitude and the equator is the fundamental plane of the geographical coordinate system. Furthermore, the north and south poles are characterized by the 90-degree north poles and 90-degree south poles.

 What is Torrid Zone

The torrid zones are the zone that surrounds “the equator” up to the “tropic of Cancer in the northern hemisphere” as well as up to “the tropic of Capricorn in the southern hemisphere” in the geographical coordinate system. In addition, in torrid zones or tropics, the sunlight is directly projected above once a year.  Furthermore, in these “torrid or tropical zones”, the temperature is humid, warm, and generally moist. Furthermore, it is the hottest region due to its closeness with the equator of the earth’s surface. Torrid zones featured such as rainfall, varied animal life as well as lush plants and trees.

What is a temperate and frigid zone?

Temperate zones are defined as the part or section of the surface of the earth in the middle between the “tropic of Cancer” and “arctic circle in the northern hemisphere” or between the “tropic of Capricorn” and “Antarctic circle in the southern hemisphere”. In addition, this zone is specified by having a climate such as frosting in the winter, hot in the summer as well as moderate in the spring season. North temperate zones are characterized by the section of the surface of the earth between the “arctic circles” as well as “the tropic of Cancer”. Furthermore, “south temperate zones” are characterized by the part or section of the surface of the earth that connects “the Antarctic circles” and “the tropic of Capricorn” in the geographical coordinate system. Temperate zones are characterized by having hot as well as cold temperatures and experience all four seasons; however, frigid zones are always cold. Both zones are receiving tilting rays of the sun.

Relation between longitudes and time

There are very close relationships between time and longitudes as in 24 hours or in day earth makes “one complete rotation of 360 degrees”. In addition, it proceeds by “15 degrees” in “one hour”. Hence, in four minutes a difference of 1 degree. In addition, the time difference between two particular places is because of differences in the longitudes between those particular places. Furthermore, the time difference between each longitude is four minutes so if it is 1:00p.m noon at zero degrees (Greenwich), then it would be 1:04 p.m at one-degree meridian in the geographical coordinate system.

Conclusion

The entire section of this report deals with various aspects of the latitudes as well as longitudes in the geographical coordinate system. Furthermore, it also emphasized the torrid zones as well as temperate zones and frigid zones on the earth’s surface. In addition, it also highlighted the relationships between the longitudes and time as it gave the reasons behind the difference in time at different places on the earth’s surface.
