Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate is an endeavour of the government of India to celebrate India’s achievements over the last 75 years and inspire youth to take up science and technology. This helped in strengthening the already robust commitment of the scientific community towards the economic and social development of the country by strategizing the roadmap for the next 25 years to drive every Indian including scientific organisations toward this goal.
“Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate” Meaning
The phrase “Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate” meaning is composed of three Sanskrit words which are
- “Vigyan” which means science
- “Sarvatra” which means everywhere, and
- “Pujyate” which means to worship
Hence, this whole phrase (Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate) is construed to mean that “science is worshipped everywhere”.
What is Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate Programme?
- Under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the science and technology organisations of the government of India are committed to taking science, technology, and innovation to the masses.
- Moving forward in this direction, a week-long pan India program called Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate was organised by the office of the principal scientific advisor to the government of India in collaboration with the ministry of culture.
- In addition to displaying India’s scientific heritage and prowess, the program was also an effort toward finding innovative solutions in the fields like defence, space, health, agriculture, astronomy, and many others.
- “Vigyan Prasar” which is an autonomous organisation of the department of science and technology had been entrusted with coordinating this mega science event being supported by the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Biotechnology, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), the Ministry of Earth Sciences, the Department of Atomic Energy, the Department of Space, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
- This was an effort to commemorate the 75 year-long scientific journey of independent India to boost flagship visionary programs of the government of India including “Make in India” & “Atma Nirbhar Bharat”.
Events Held Under Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate Programme
- 75 events were held under the Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate programme which consisted of exhibitions, lectures, film showings, radio talks, literature conferences, book fairs, poster displays, and many other activities.
- It included the distribution of 75 awards. All the related program information is available on the government website under the name Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate.
- Under the Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate programme, Vigyan Prasar had also organised the science communication popularisation and its extension i.e. scope for all festivals.
- This included a national competition for essay writing, slogan writing, poetry writing, poster making, short film making, and an online science and technology quiz.
- The Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate registration process was launched on 1st February 2022 and the last date for sending applications was 17th February 2022. Anyone could have applied for different competitions by visiting the government of India’s website.
Timeline of Events Held Under Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate Programme
- Under Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate (running from 22nd to 28th February), events were held under four major themes. These programs were held concurrently at 75 venues across India commencing with a mega expo and book fair on the first day of this programme i.e. 22nd of February 2022 at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
- On the 23rd of February, events to accentuate 75 highlights from the history of science and technology were held. This event was aimed at acquainting the masses with the achievements and contributions of the founders of modern science towards nation-building.
- On the 24th of February, 75 important achievements of modern science and technology were celebrated. This paid tribute to the discoveries, innovations, or inventions by Indian scientists which have played a significant role not only in the development of India but also contributed to global science.
- On February 25th, programs were organised to highlight the inventions and technologies based on the established knowledge structures. This event was held under the theme “75 innovations and inventions of indigenous and traditional science and technology”.
- On the 26th of February, depicting transforming India, 75 different films, theatres, and literature programs were organised at 75 locations.
- On February 27th, programs were organised under the theme “The Road ahead of the next 25 years of Indian science and technology.
- On February 28th, this event came to an end with the grand finale at JawaharLal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi.
