New India Literacy Programme

The New India literacy program (NILP) is a program to promote the literacy rate or to increase the literacy rate in the states and union territories of India. Let’s discuss them in detail.

The Government has authorised the “New India Literacy Programme” for fiscal years 2022-2027, which would encompass all elements of adult learning and will be in line with the National Education Policy 2020, as well as the Budgetary Announcements 2021-22.

Adult Learning and Life – long learning are recommended in the National Policy Of education 2020.

In the Union Budget 2021-22, it was announced that online programs encompassing the complete spectrum of adult learning will be launched to offer improved access to the resources.

Objectives of NILP

The program’s goals are also to teach not just fundamental numeracy, but also important life skills (including financial education, digital skills, advertising skills, medical services and consciousness, child care and education, and family services); occupational skills training (to get local jobs); and basic education (such as preliminary, centre, and secondary education).

Adults’ education classes in the arts, science, technologies, art, sports, or leisure, as well as many other areas of interest or utility to regional learners, including more advanced material about key life skills, are included in ongoing training.

The causes of Illiteracy in India

  • Less educated People – There are instances where parents are not very well educated and therefore do not understand why learning is so vital. This is one of the major causes of illiteracy in india.
  • Lack of Infrastructure – After many decades of freedom, the precedents still are not what they should be. As a result, some people are unable to obtain an education.
  • Poverty is the underlying cause of illiteracy- There are always those who are unable to obtain adequate food, housing, or clothes. They can’t afford to send them to education and are compelled to send them to work, whether it’s on farms or any other occupation.
  • Population – The fast growth of the human population contributes to the rising rate of illiteracy. The supplies are few, and the consumers are numerous.
  • Corruption – This situation has resulted from red tape and corruption. The monies set aside for school are frequently misappropriated and utilised to line the wallets of authorities. Because they cannot find a suitable job in India, educated Indians sometimes decide to relocate overseas or seek employment elsewhere. This is one of the major causes of illiteracy in india.
  • Backward thinking – In today’s world, gender prejudice still exists. They feel that females’ education is unimportant, thus they exclusively send their sons to school, resulting in an academic disparity between boys and girls.
