Transportation and Significance in India

Air transport, road transport, water transport and rail transport are portal connectivity are the five segments of the transport system available in India. The water system of transportation is the oldest means of transportation in India but still owns a lot of room for improvement. In terms of land-based transportation, the country owns one of the biggest networks of road transportation. With the second-largest rail system in the country, India has the largest rail connectivity in Asia. Thus, transportation holds immense significance in one of the largest countries in the world. With the presence of high requirements related to travelling, transportation of goods, essentials and many more the significance of transportation in India is immense.

Rail Network:

After the United States and China, India owns the third-highest rail connectivity in the world. With Multi-gauge, multi-tracking system covered by broad gauge, metre gauge and narrow gauge, the country owns about 64,600 kilometres of the rail network.

Road Network:

Be it the hilly areas of the country or the population residing in the far-fetched parts of the country, road transport is the major medium to connect the population of those areas with the developed parts of the country. Be it in terms of transporting resources or be it the transportation of people from one place to another, a road network is one of the prominent mediums that people opt for.

Air Network:

Starting even before the Indian Independence in the year 1911, air transport first began in India between the cities of Naini and Allahabad. The year 1995 saw the merging of the National Airports Authority and the Airport Authority of India into the Airport Authority of India. The civil aviation training college at Allahabad is managed by the Airport Authority of India. The authority also manages the National Institute of Aviation Management and Research which is situated in the national capital of the country, Delhi.

Water Network:

The water mode of transportation is one of the cheapest and the oldest transportation mediums in the country. In the segment of water medium of transport, six national waterways are set up by the Inland Waterways Authority of India. There are thirteen major ports in the country. Also, India has 187 minor ports.

Portal Network:

The portal or the communication system is one of the largest systems of communication in the country. The Indian National Satellite System, also known as INSS, started the communication system in the modern line.

The evolution of bullet trains in the country has taken the world by storm. The ever-improving rail network in terms of speed and connectivity across the world is another major sign of development in the stream of transportation.
