A maritime exercise with a foreign navy is the Indian Fleet’s longest-running one with a partner from another country. Even though the pandemic is still going on, the two countries have a lot of trust in each other’s defences. As a result of these limitations, Singapore and Indian Navies were able to carry out hard manoeuvres like firing live weapons and advanced naval warfare sequences smoothly and safely. What is SIMBEX?
The full form of SIMBEX is Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise. In 1994, the Indian Navy began a maritime exercise with a foreign navy called Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise. It has been going on ever since.
The 28th edition of SIMBEX was a huge naval exercise on the southern borders of the South China Sea. Because of this, they are becoming more interested in the same thing. Which managed the 27th edition of SIMBEX to hold in 2020 in the Andaman Sea, then in 2021 in the southern parts of the South China Sea; this year, the Democracy of Singapore Navy (RSN) held a maritime exercise called SIMBEX-2021, which is a joint maritime exercise between the two countries every year.
India and Singapore Work Together to Protect their Countries
Indian and Singaporean defence ties are said to be very strong. There seem to be more than 20 regular bilateral procedures, talks, and exercises between the two countries, and they happen all the time.
Both of them belong to many different groups: An event called the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium brings together the East Asia Summit and the G20 Commonwealth of Nations, as well as the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IONS).

India and Singapore are Increasing Their Defence Cooperation
In 1994, the Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX) was made official when the Singapore Navy began to train with the Indian Navy. Since then, there have been a lot of exchange programmes and training modules for naval cooperation between the two countries.

A guided-missile destroyer, an anti-missile missile corvette, an anti-submarine warfare corvette, and a P8I Extended – range Maritime Patrol Aircraft were all part of the Indian Navy’s show.
On Thursday, an annual naval exercise called “Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise” took place in the contested South China Sea.
It is also seen as a sign that both countries want to keep China’s expansionist tendencies.
Coronavirus continues to spread, so the SIMBEX 2021 exercise only occurred at sea. There were no physical interactions between the people taking part.
The event was held in the southern part of the South China Sea, where the RSN (Republic of Singapore Navy) was in charge.
