Prime Minister Fellowship Scheme for PhD 2022

It is a public-private partnership (PPP) between the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), which is an autonomous body under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), the Government of India, and the Confederation of Indian Industry.

The PMRF, which stands for the Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship programme, is designed to entice the best and brightest students in the nation to enrol in the doctoral programmes offered by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), the Indian Institutes of Science Education & Research (IISERs), the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the National Institute of Technology (NITs), and the Central Universities. These programmes allow students to conduct research in cutting-edge scientific and technological fields that are focused on national priorities. If you are interested in pursuing doctoral studies in the field of science and technology in India, PMRF is an excellent option for you to begin your education at highly regarded academic institutions. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), which is part of the Indian government, is the organisation that is providing the fellowship. The purpose of the programme is to provide aspiring PhD scholars with a double scholarship (up to Rs. 6 lakh per annum), of which 50 percent will be provided by the government and the balance 50 percent will be provided by an industry sponsoring the research, for the purpose of conducting research for a period of four years; the research fellow will receive a PhD degree as a result of their participation in this industrial research.

Public-Private-Partnership (PPP)

The public-private partnership, also known as the 3P model, is a type of business legal relationship that was defined by the Government of India in 2011 as “an arrangement between a government / statutory entity / government-owned entity on one side and a private sector entity on the other, for the provision of public assets and/or public services, through investments being made and/or management being undertaken by the private sector entity, for a specified period of time, where there is well definable risk and reward

Enhancing trust level in academia

The purpose of this programme is to encourage younger academics who are smart, motivated, and result-oriented to engage in research that is important to the industry. In this programme, full-time PhD scholars receive twice as much money as they normally would for their research efforts under the previous system. The maximum amount of money that can be received as a government fellowship in India in any academic or research institute is roughly Rs 36,400 per month. This amount takes into account the House Rent Allowance (HRA). The Prime Minister’s Fellowship Scheme for Doctoral Research provides the scholars with a scholarship amount that is equal to twice that of the JRF or SRF (as per applicable slabs). Although the government contributes half of the funding for this scholarship, the other half comes from a private organisation that collaborates closely with the candidate on the research topic and provides the funding. 2013 marked the beginning of the first batch. Since September 2014, applicants have been given the opportunity to submit their applications at any point during the first 14 months following the registration of their PhD degree.
