Non-Recognised Countries in 2022

There are many non-recognised countries around the world. These are states whose sovereignty is not accepted by the United Nations or its members. Read to know more about them.

A whole spectrum of countries is not recognised as well as partially recognised all around the world. These are the states whose sovereignty is not accepted universally by the United Nations. There is the proclaimed form of state, which is not all recognised by the other state and does not have any kind of control over another territory. Several countries are depending on other countries for their recognition. Though they have their governments and sovereignty, they are not yet internationally recognised and not even accepted by the other states. There are several non-recognised countries, and Palestine is one the most important such countries. There are many unrecognised states worldwide, leading to political turmoil regarding their status.

Non-Recognised Countries

There are several mutually non-recognised countries in the UN. For instance, North and South Korea, along with Armenia and Azerbaijan, had refused to recognise each of them as sovereign states.

Some non-recognised countries are not accepted as independent states. In the case of Brussels, it is like being in the middle as Abkhazia is recognised only by the five countries. Even Nagorno-Karabakh is partially recognised and perhaps is also familiar as the Republic of Artsakh.

Though the United Nations recognise them, they are non-recognised countries by the other countries of the world. However, they have their flag, territory as well as currency. The other states consider them non-recognised countries in terms of their sovereignty.

Sea land

The official language is English, with a large land area between Europe and the United Kingdom. This territory resembles the Centre of oil exploration. Even then, it is a non-recognised country.

Christiania

This is another nation from the unrecognised countries list. This place’s official language is Danish, known as “Freetown Christiania”. It has spread over a smaller part of Denmark, with differences between the Danish government and Christina. This is one of the countries that has opened to everyone, and anyone can go to this place without any obstacles.

The Province of Hutt River is a kind of micro nation in Australia. This territory covers an area of 517 km towards the north Perth near Northampton city towards the western part of the Australian continent. Though this territory has its passport, postage stamps and currency, they are non-recognised by the government of Australia or any other form of government.

Murrawarri Republic

This is one of the small countries which separated itself from Australia in 2013. This is located in South Wales along with Queensland. People from this country have gained freedom from England’s queen and the Prime Minister of Australia. They can still not fulfil their demands, resulting in the unrecognised countries list.

There are also some countries in the continent of Asia which have remained unrecognised. There are both recognised and limited forms of recognised states along with the dependent territories in the non-Asia and the parts of Asia. Unrecognised countries in Asia can be divided into the merging point of Europe and Asia that occur near the mountains of the Ural, Ural River with the area around the Caspian Sea, towards the east. Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Georgia, and Turkey are mainly considered part of Asia and Europe.

In the case of Cyprus and Armenia, they are entirely related to the Western part of Asia. Still, they are considered part of European countries based on socio political grounds. The division raised between Asia and Africa is mainly considered to be placed under Suez Canal, and the Sinai peninsula is set in Asia; therefore, Egypt can be included as part of the Asian state.

The division between Australasia and Asia is a matter of dispute, so they are placed between New Guinea and Java.

The Independent States That Are Yet on the Unrecognised Countries List

Although Palestine and the Holy See are in the unrecognised countries list of some of the United Nations members, they are identified in the form of independent states. However, it must be noted that many of the additional states and territories that like to be registered as countries have not yet been recognised by the required number of members of the United Nations.

The Additional States That Have Limited Recognition

South Ossetia is only recognised by the limited members of five. In the case of Abkhazia, it is the same as that of South Ossetia. In contrast, Northern Cyprus is identified only by one member and remains on the unrecognised countries list of the other countries. Apart from these states, other states exist in the form of additional territories. They have limited legal independence, making it convenient for United Nations and its member states to be noted as the parent countries. They are granted limited recognition as they are tiny as well as often uninhabited form of the island, which makes the nationhood to be highly unlikely. Whereas in the case of Hong Kong, Greenland, and Puerto Rico are very close to being independent and appear to be completely recognised countries by most of the average person.

These countries can stand on their own if they are willing and if their parent country accepts the same.

Conclusion:

Though they have their governments and sovereignty, they are not internationally recognised and not accepted by the other states. There are non-recognised countries in Asia, and there are both recognised and limited forms of the recognised states and the dependent territories.
