India got its independence in the year 1947 and henceforth all the decisions are taken considering the constitution of India, which came into force in the year 1950. The Indian states and capital were made after independence.Â
There are 28 Indian states and their capital. In 1956, The State Reorganization Act was passed and the main aim of this act was to reorganize the boundary of the Indian states and their capital.Â
The constitution of India described Indian states and capital and classified them into 3 types which are Part A states which include states that were governor’s provinces during the rule of British India, Part B states which include earlier princely states and Part C states which include earlier princely states and earlier chief commissioner’s region.Â

India has 28 states and 1 capital is there in each state. Earlier the capital of India was Kolkata because a huge amount of trade was done at the time of British rule in India but after that Delhi was named the capital city of the country of India and it is the capital of India to date.
There are in total 28 states and 8 union territories in India and Delhi is the only which is regarded both as a state as well as a union territory. Delhi is the capital city of India. Earlier there were 29 states but it was decided that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and Ladakh should be separated making them each a separate Union Territory. Every state has its official language and 22 official languages are spoken in India but the official language of India is Hindi. Every state has its own culture and traditions.
