Countries of the World Listed By Continent

Landmasses and water bodies are the two primary types of landmasses on our planet. Oceans cover 71% of the Earth's surface, while continents make up the remaining 29%. On this world, there are seven continents and five oceans. The landmasses, or continents, will be discussed in this article.

Multiple continent classifications exist. Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania/Australia, North America, South America, and Antarctica make up the seven continent system.

Two continents are united to create the six-continent system. Two versions of the six continent concept merge Europe and Asia into Eurasia and North and South America into The Americas.

The five continent system combines Eurasia with the Americas, leaving the rest alone.

Africa joins Eurasia to form Afro-Eurasia, leaving Oceania and Antarctica as independent continents.

Antarctica is the sole variable. Antarctica is often excluded from classification systems since it has no permanent population.

Countries employ different systems.

There’s no agreed-upon number of countries in the globe. 193 UN members are the minimum. There are many more constituent, de facto, and self-proclaimed autonomous states. Some independent first-level administrative divisions are also considered countries.

The list below uses the seven continent system and mostly covers U.N. member states.

Seven Continents on a World Map

Continents are the land masses that make up the Earth. These continents are subdivided further into countries or islands. We’ll go over all of the continents on the world map here. The following are the seven continents of the world, along with their countries and other pertinent information:

Asia is number one

It is the largest continent on the planet.

It accounts for almost one-third of the entire land area.

The Eastern Hemisphere is home to it.

The United Nations recognises 48 countries, as well as a few dependencies and other areas, as shown on the map.

Russia and Turkey, two countries on this continent, are shared with Europe.

One country, Palestine, has just UN observer status and has not yet been recognised as a separate entity.

Russia, the world’s largest country, is represented here.

It is also renowned as the most populous continent, with a population of about 4.6 billion people as of 2021.

Both of the world’s most populous countries are represented.

It also contains the highest mountain ranges on the planet.

It is separated from Europe by the Ural Mountains, and from Africa by the Sinai Peninsula and the Red Sea.

The continent of Africa is number two

It is the second-largest city in the country.

The Equator, the Tropic of Cancer, and the Tropic of Capricorn all pass through this point.

The majority of it is located in the Northern Hemisphere.

It is connected to South America by the isthmus of Panama, a very thin stretch of land.

It can be found throughout the Northern Hemisphere.

It is made up of 23 countries and 9 dependencies.

The largest country is Canada, while the smallest is St Kitts and Nevis.

This continent contains the world’s largest freshwater lake, Lake Superior.

It is separated from Russia, or more accurately, Asia, by the Bering strait.

Americas is number four

It is the fourth largest city in the country.

The majority of it is found in the Southern Hemisphere.

The huge Amazon forest, our planet’s lungs, is located here.

The Amazon, the world’s longest river, also flows through this region.

The Andes, the world’s longest mountain range, is also found on this continent.

There are 12 countries represented here, as well as three dependencies.

Suriname is the smallest country here, while Brazil is the largest.

The continent of Antarctica is number five

It is the fifth-largest city in the world.

It occupies the entire southern hemisphere.

This continent’s centre is the south pole.

It’s encased in ice sheets.

There are no human settlements in the area.

Many countries’ research stations are located here.

Maitri and Dakshin Gangotri are examples of such research stations.

Europe is number six.

In terms of size, it is ranked sixth.

Eurasia is the name given to the union of Europe and Asia.

It is surrounded on three sides by various bodies of water.

This includes the world’s tiniest country, the Vatican City.

Australia is ranked number seven.

It is the world’s tiniest continent.

It is, in fact, an island nation.

It is located in the hemisphere of the Southern Hemisphere.
