The Indian railway network consists of more than 63000 kilometres (km), out of which 60000 km are operational while the remaining 3000 km are under construction or renovation. This railway system is the oldest and largest one in the world. It has more than 65000 kilometres long lines connected with all the states of India and some other countries like Nepal and Pakistan, etc.Â
The rail network is owned by Indian Railways and operated by government agencies through several companies under it. The railway network covers all over India except Jammu & Kashmir state due to security reasons during war or peace times.
Airways: Airways have become very popular among Indians due to their convenience and reliability over other modes like rail and road transport because it offers faster service with less hassle as compared to other modes like trains or buses etc. which take more time than aeroplanes due to their routes being longer from one place to another location within same city or state. The Ministry of Civil Aviation regulates air traffic in India.
