Resonance was 1st found in the acoustic process like the musical equipment and the voice of human beings. The vibration produced by the piano or the musical equipment is an example of acoustic resonance. The depth of knowledge of this will help you understand the working principle of sound.
Objects and mechanical systems always vibrate at a specific frequency. This is known as the natural frequency. When a lightweight or acoustic wave hits a thing that is moving and has some fixed frequency, and that frequency matches the resonant frequency, it is known as resonance.
As we have discussed the meaning of resonance earlier, resonance requires an outside force at a frequency adequate to that object’s natural frequency of motion. This is known as the resonant frequency. It refers to the amplification of sound or alternative vibrations in mechanical things.
Some examples of this will help you understand the various forms you experience in your daily life. A simple example of it is sound waves. Others can hear your voice when you vibrate your vocal cord at the correct frequencies. Most of the musical instruments also work in the same process.
Effect of Resonance
You might have noticed that the singer breaks a glass with their loud voice. This happens due to Resonance. The Resonance may affect any equipment. The frequency produced by an object can excite any vibration that occurs near the same frequency. The vibration can damage the equipment. The unbalance and misalignment can happen in the kit, leading to failure. The Resonance also can damage high buildings and bridges. The earthquake also occurs due to the Resonance, and if it has the same frequency as the building, it causes some damage. So the Resonance cannot be ignored before constructing any buildings or bridges.
Types of Resonance
Resonances are of five types they are Mechanical, Acoustic, Electrical, Optical, Orbital resonance.
Mechanical Resonance
Mechanical resonance is a type of resonance in which the tendency of a mechanical object to react at a higher amplitude when the oscillation frequency of the system matches the natural frequency of the system than the different frequencies. Some examples of this type of resonance include the pushing of a swing, the motion of a pendulum, and the motion of a tuning fork. In the above cases, the force applied to produce the vibrations must be periodically regulated to match the natural frequency to create the resonance.
Acoustic Resonance
When an acoustic system consists of waves with frequencies coinciding with all but one of their natural frequencies, it amplifies the sound. This is known as acoustic resonance. This is an essential tool for musical instrument producers as it is used to make acoustic equipment. Acoustic resonance is also helpful for the ability to hear a human voice.
Electrical Resonance
This is a type of resonance that happens in a circuit at a specific frequency when the impedance of the circuit cancels each other. This resonance is used mainly to maximise the gain for a given frequency. So by varying the frequency, the resonance can easily be achieved. The best example of resonance is when you switch on the radio. When you change the station, it changes the natural frequency of the receiver’s circuit and matches it with the frequency of the transmission frequency of the station.
Optical Resonance
Optical resonance is also a type of resonance that happens when the visual response is in stage with the interactivity optical field. It is a setting of some components which allows a ray of light to flow in a closed path. The best example of Optical Resonance is when a mirror with partial reflection and a mirror with highly reflective light is part of a laser.
Orbital Resonance
This type of Resonance occurs when orbiting bodies apply a regular periodic gravitational effect on each other. The main principle behind this type of Resonance is the same as pushing a kid in the swing. Here the orbit and the swing have their natural frequency, and the pushing affects the motion.
Types of Resonance on Electric circuit
Resonance occurs in an electrical circuit consisting of inductors and a capacitor. There are two types of resonance occurring in an Electrical circuit: Series and Parallel resonance.
Series Resonance
The series resonance is a type of Resonance that occurs when capacitors and inductors are connected in a series. When the components create the most negligible impedance, then series resonance happens.
Parallel Resonance
This type of resonance occurs in the electrical circuit when a capacitor and an inductor are connected in parallel. This happens when the components create maximum impedance.
Conclusion
Resonance signifies some crucial aspects of the world, such as music and nuclear fusion in stars. This also happens in everyday life. It is responsible for some existence of the particles. Resonance is the important reason behind the music instrument working principle, and it helps humans hear the voice and communicate with each other. So resonance is an essential factor in our day-to-day life, and ignoring the resonance can cause severe damage.
