Balanced force

Balanced forces are created when two predefined forces with equal magnitude but opposite direction act on a certain body. A stationary body remains in its stationary location, while a moving body continues to move in the same direction at the same speed.

When two forces act in a way that is opposed to one another on any object and has equal size, they are said to be balanced forces. It has been verified that when a balanced force is applied, the item either remains stationary or moves in a stable manner. A force analysis is required to determine whether or not a force is balanced. 

Force

Force is the ability of a body to modify or change its state as a result of an external cause. When force is applied to the body, it can change its shape, size, and direction. Kicking a ball, pulling and pushing the door, or kneading dough are just a few examples.

Isaac Newton’s Three Laws of Motion introduced the concept of force. According to Newton’s second law, force is referred as the “product of mass and acceleration of a body.” Force is an external effort applied in stretching, compressing, pushing, pulling, and other similar activities; it can assist an item in moving, resting, or changing its speed or direction. It also alters the shape or size of the thing.

Force Formula

The method of calculating force is as follows:

 F=m ×a

 Here, F = Applied force on an object

       m = mass of the object

and a = acceleration produced in the object by applying force

Unit of Force

In the SI system, force is measured in newtons, but in the CGS system, it is measured as dynes. A newton is the amount of force but that may cause an acceleration of  1 m s-2 on an object of mass 1 kg.

Types of Force

Force can be classified as:

Contact Forces: Contact forces are forces that only operate when they come into physical contact with the body.

Examples of contact forces are: The frictional force applied on a ball rolling on the floor in the opposite direction of the ball’s motion. Mechanical force, natural reaction, muscle force, and other contact forces are examples.

Non-Contact Forces

Non-contact forces are those that operate without making physical contact with the body and instead act through transitional space.

Examples of non contact forces are: The gravitational force, for example, operates on a body in its field without making contact with it. Electrostatic force, magnetic force, and other non-contact forces are examples.

Balanced Forces 

The forces are said to be balanced if the sum of all the forces acting on a body is zero.

Example of balanced force: When we press a table from both sides with equal force, the table stays in its place. The cause for this is that we are using balanced forces on it. The net force will be zero when we apply force on the luggage to lift it up. The gravitational attraction of the Earth on the bag in the vertically downward direction and the force exerted by us in the upward direction balance each other when we lift up a bag. As a result, the bag is kept vertically stable.

When the forces are balanced, the consequences of force may not be obvious.

Unbalanced Forces

Unbalanced forces are those that occur when the sum of all the forces acting on a body is not zero. Example of an unbalanced force: If we press a table from one side, the table will begin to shift. Because the combination of our force and the frictional force is not zero, the table that was before stationary begins to move. During a tug of war, the rope’s centre moves towards the team pulling with higher power. So, if the rope’s centre is moving, the forces applied by the teams on both sides are not equal, resulting in imbalanced forces that cause the rope’s centre to move to either side.

Balanced force calculation

Assume that F1and F2 are the magnitudes of two opposing forces acting on an item. The net force acting on the object is then zero, as given by the concept of balanced force. Hence balanced force formula will be given as: F1-F2=0.

For example, consider a book with a mass of mand a weight of mg on a table, where g is the acceleration due to gravity. The table will produce an equal and opposite force, known as the normal force FN according to Newton’s law. Both forces will cancel one another out. As action of force is in  same as  line of action, the object will stay motionless.

A force is a physical effect that is applied to an object to cause it to move. The final result is that the thing is pushed or pulled. A force is a vector with both magnitude and direction.

Balanced vs. Unbalanced Forces

Differences

Unbalanced forces refer to a combination of forces that do not cancel each other out and result in a net (resultant) force, as opposed to balanced forces, which do not modify the motion of an object. 

Unbalanced forces cause a stationary object to be displaced or a moving object to shift direction. In both circumstances, the item accelerates in the direction of the resultant force. As long as this force exists, it will continue to move.
