Difference between NEET and AIIMS

Both the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) are entrance tests that are taken every year.

The NEET examination is conducted every year by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the AIIMS entrance test is conducted each year separately and its centre is in New Delhi (Medical Science Institute of New Delhi). However, since the year 2020, the AIIMS examination has been scrapped and since then, the NEET examination has become the only entrance test (All India level). Students from all over India sit in this exam every year in massive numbers to get the prestigious opportunity to get into the top medical colleges in the country. The exam has become the one-tier national entrance test in India for admissions in medical courses.

Basic Difference between NEET Exam and AIIMS Exam

Before the academic year of 2020, the two entrance exams used to be conducted separately and also had major differences in multiple ways. For example, their examination pattern, syllabus, assessment of successful/eligible candidates were all different from each other. The NTA had made specific rules for the NEET exam while the AIIMS examination had its pattern and rules. Although the AIIMS exam has been scrapped since the academic year of 2020, let us till see the major differences between the top entrance exams when both of them were active;

Assessment Pattern Difference

In the case of the NEET exam, the focus of assessment by the exam was on time management, speed, presence of mind, and conceptual understanding. All these key components were merged and the questions were a cumulative result of all core aspects. In this way, the NEET exam found a way to assess a student based on their acquired knowledge. On the other hand, AIIMS always had more focus on conceptual comprehension and the student’s application skills. Their exam reflected this fact and the eligible candidates were selected based on these qualities through their entrance exam until 2019.

Mode of Exam and Duration

The NEET exam was organized by the NTA in offline mode while the AIIMS was conducted in online mode. As far as exam duration is concerned; NEET exam- 3 hours. AIIMS- 3 hours 30 minutes.

The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) are entrance tests that are taken every year. By qualifying for these tests, eligible candidates get the opportunity to get admission in medical institutes for undergraduate medical courses all over India. Since the academic year 2020, the AIIMS examination has been scrapped and since then, the NEET examination has become the only entrance test (All India level). This was done to centralise the total selection process and attain an only system of selection of candidates from their merit.
