A sentence can be transformed in many ways to make it more effective and clear, here are some types of transformation with examples.
Understanding the basics of transformation of Sentence
What exactly is sentence transformation? To put it simply, it’s the rearrangement of words within a sentence to create another sentence with the same meaning but different forms. There are two types of sentence transformation that you need to know to use this grammatical tool correctly, including Sentence rearrangement and Sentence expansion. Both can help you create different sentences with different meanings using the same set of words. But which one is best to use when? Let’s find out!
Types of transformation of Sentence
Transformations are divided into two broad types: grammatical transformations and logical transformations. We call a sentence in which only grammatical transformations have been made, a Simple Sentence. A sentence may undergo one or more logical transformations along with some of its grammatical transformation, but it is still called a Simple Sentence. However, when a sentence undergoes both types of transformation at one time, it becomes a Composite Sentence. Thus we can say that there are three types of sentences: simple sentences, composite sentences, and complex sentences. Complex Sentences are further subdivided into Compound-Complex Sentences and Complex-Compound Sentences
Transformation of sentence rule
It can be defined as changing a sentence in such a way that it becomes clear, better, and grammatically correct. Most of us face problems while trying to arrange words in a sentence. So sometimes we change sentences that are not necessary but sometimes change is necessary and people fail to do so. No need to worry, there are two types of transformation: Regular & Irregular. It doesn’t matter whether you are already aware of rules or not, you will find them useful as it will help you make your sentences good & clear at every point in your life. For example
Rules and Terms Associated with Sentence Transformation
There are certain rules and terms which will be used throughout your sentence transformation. Since these concepts can be tricky, you should be familiar with what they mean. Let’s start with our friends, who and whom. Who refers to a person or people and who refers to an object or objects being discussed in a sentence.
Common mistakes while Sentence Transformation
As you have learned in my high school grammar class, there are some mistakes while transforming sentences. For example, if you add ‘not’ to a sentence like A book was interesting, it changes into The book was not interesting. But if you add ‘not’ to a negative sentence like The girl didn’t read, it changes into She read. So make sure that after changing a sentence you pay attention to whether it is affirmative or negative. To avoid making these mistakes one should keep an eye on other words in addition to the verb of sentences.
Tips for Transformation of Sentence
Let’s have a look at some of them: – Structural Transformation:- This is used to transform a sentence by changing it structurally. Sometimes one part of speech of a word in a sentence may be changed into another part of speech. The most common change here is that of nouns into verbs. e.g.: – John walks every day (noun) –> John walks every day (verb). This is known as conversion transformation and can be practiced in different ways. We will see those techniques later on in the chapter. Or we may turn an adverb into a verb using opposite techniques or an adjective into an adverb, and so forth for adjectives too.
Conclusion
Sentence transformation refers to changing the form of a sentence without changing its basic meaning. It has different types which are classified. Sentence Transformation rules can be developed manually for such sentence transformations using patterns that the user could learn from texts containing the said sentence transformation in some form or another.
