  2. Clean sea-2017 . The Regional Level Marine Oil Pollution Response Exercise titled 'Clean Sea 2017, was recently conducted at sea off Port Blair. It was conducted by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The objective of exercise was to combat major oil spill and to also ensure that adequate protection is provided to the public health and welfare, and the marine environment, in line with provisions of National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOS-DCP). . . Background: Indian Coast Guard is responsible for marine environment protection in the maritime zones of India and is the coordinating authority for response to oil spills in Indian waters. The Force has drawn up a National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOSDCP) and has established three pollution response centres at Mumbai, Chennaiand Port Blair. . India promulgated National oil spill Disaster contingency plan (NOS-DCP) in the year 1996. Coast guard was designated as central coordination authority.

Operation save kurma: It is species specific operation on turtles The operation was conducted to combat the proliferatingillegal trade of live turtles and its parts from the country to destinationsabroad and was also aimed to invite attention of the enforcement agencies towards such illegal trade. . It was awarded by Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) for its efforts in conducting and coordinating species-specific wildlife enforcement operation. . For it s commendable step to combat illegal wildlife trade India was awarded by Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). operation was conducted from December 15, 2016 to January 30, 2017, approximately 16,000 live turtles and tortoises were seized and released back into the wild.   4. Resilient Hindu Kush Himalaya': The International conference on climate change was held in Nepal. It was organized by Nepal's Ministry for Environment in collaboration with International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). attended by more than 300 experts from different countries of Asia including India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan and Myanmar. . It was titled 'Resilient Hindu Kush Himalaya: Developing Solutions towards a Sustainable Future for Asia'. Its purpose was to draw attention towards adverse effects of global warming in Hindu Kush mountain range.

  5. Hindu kush Himalayan range: The Hindu Kush Himalayan (HKH) region extends 3,500 km over all or part of eight countries from Afghanistan in the west to Myanmar in the east. It is the source of ten large Asian river systems for ex:, Indus, Ganges, Brahmaputra (Yarlungtsangpo), Irrawaddy, Salween (Nu), Mekong (Lancang), Yangtse (Jinsha). This region provides water, ecosystem services and livelihoods to more than 210 million people. The region holds and distributes water for more than 1.3 billion people living in downstream river basins.
